Jaws 2 is,
by my estimation, about half of what the
original was. It has about half the acting,
half the suspense, and half the intellegence.
Roy Sheider reprises his role as Chief Brody
of the shark-haunted island town of Amity.
Scheider's performance has 'contractually
obligated' all over it. In this one, another
great white appears to be eating people on
the same beach shortly after the original.
Once again the big-heads of the beach don't
want to close the beach, this time they claim
that Brody is just overreacting to the couple
of strange deaths that have occured in the
last week or so. The difference between this
and the first one? A bigger shark, closer
calls, typical sequel stuff. Add a goofy
score that pales in the shadow of the
previous one, and a mostly 70's teen menu for
the shark this time around and you have a
medeocre second go. The effects almost live
up to the original, save the final scene that
is horribly done involving electricity. When
Jaws became a franchise, it was a continuing
downward spiral. You can just imagine what
Jaws 3 is like- Jaws Comes to Seaworld in
3-D. Part 2 is worth renting only if you're
starving for some more great shark attack
scenes, which it does
deliver.
