A true
great one, here. Great scares, great
independant film feel, great exaggerated and
fun gore, and great characters. If you
haven't seen this you gotta, it's in my top
3. Evil Dead is the story of some overaged
teenagers that go into a cabin in the woods
to stay for a night. They find the tape reels
of an Indiana Jones type character that had
stayed in the cabin previously, and on the
tape he recites lines from his most recent
find, The Sumerian Book of the Dead, which in
turn raises the evil spirits of the woods to
wreak havok on Ash (Campbell) and his
friends. There is some great camerawork and
the whole thing is grueling (in a good way),
as it lasts all night. Probably the most
underrated horror of all time, it belongs
hand in hand with other independant-type
scary films- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,
Halloween, and Night of the Living Dead. It's
a cult classic, yes, but without most of the
negative aspects of that grouping. It might
grossyou out, as the gore is excessive, and
the stop moton scenes in the end aren't the
greatest effects, but overall Evil Dead is a
classic. Ill be real suprised if it doesn't
scare you or someone you're with. There are
two sequels to date- Evil Dead 2 and Army of
Darkness. See the second one, many people
call it better than the first (but in my
opinion, the second one just isn't as scary,
although done better; it ends up being more
of a tie). Don't see the third one- it's a
comedy spoof that doesn't go with the first
two. And it sucks.
