While
others have, I've never found Child's Play or
any movie like it scary. The killer doll
premise does not appeal to me, especially
since there are so few twists you can put on
it. Child's Play is incredibly
run-of-the-mill for the killer doll lot, and
I could not explain why this series in
particular caught wind. Possibly because
Chucky is rather novel looking? Who knows.
Anyways, with all the great horror out there,
don't waste your time on Child's Play, or any
of it's peer films:
Dolly Dearest
Pinnochio's Revenge (god, that one was awful)
Demonic Toys
etc., etc.
There are some of these films I would
recommend in leui of Child's Play. Dolls is a
good one. Puppet Master's not bad either. But
if you're looking for real scare appeal,
avoid the whole doll premise all together.
Child's Play is the uneventful story of
serial killer Charles Lee Ray and the Good
Guy doll he, using voodoo, inhabits. Zzzzzzz.
Followed by several sequels, all of which are
pretty much the same movie.
