A truly
great low-budget flick with a bizarre sense
of reality, Basket Case is the twisted tale
of Duane and his wicker basket. He talks to
the basket. He feeds the basket hamburgers.
Why? Because his severed siamese twin Belial
is in the basket. The movie takes place
mostly in a depressing New York Times Square,
where Duane and Belial take residence. The
two have a psychic link and when Duane seeks
out a love interest, Belial, stop motion
anamation and all, gets angry enough to kill.
Duane, of course, gets angry back. The whole
thing interferes with their plan to kill the
doctors whom seperated the twins. Twins- I
use that word lightly considering Belial is a
one armed, sharp-toothed splatter of a guy,
who can't speak but in mumbles. Basket Case
is interesting and more than somewhat
disturbing- even the coldness of Duane's
fellow tenants was somewhat jarring. There
are, to date, two sequels, neither of which
have the same feel. This one is worth a
look-see.
