From the
trailer you'd think this movie was a dead
rip-off of The Outer Limits. It ends up being
a dead rip-off of Rosemary's Baby, with a
Species look and effects. Johnny Depp plays
one of two astronauts who lose contact with
NASA for two minutes while repairing a
satellite. In those two minutes, the two
astronauts pick up some alien airwaves that
the aliens use as transportation into the
pair's bodies. Charlize Theron is Depp's
unsuspecting wife. The second astroaut dies
soon off, as does his wife, and they are
somewhat inconsequential. Through a chain of
events including an ex-NASA employee hunting
down the astronaut's wife, she begins to
learn the truth. She also learns that she's
pregnant- with twins. This isn't a great
movie. It's predictable. It's heavilly
borrowed. It's not Johnny Depp's best role.
And it's ending is unexplained and doesn't
go. Overall don't rent this, don't rent
Rosemary's Baby, either, 'cause that one is
almost as boring as this. Instead rent those
great old Outer Limits episodes- most video
stores have a few. One with a similar plot as
The Astronaut's Wife, but with a better idea
and a better story is Cold Hands, Warm Heart
with William Shatner.
