"the game that matured the series"
This is my second favorite Final Fantasy, closely behind Final Fantasy VII. The game features the biggest assortment of characters in a Final Fantasy game. Measuring out at about 20 characters, including 2 secret ones, the game tipped the scale on the amount of playable characters in a standard RPG. This game added emotion and a worldwide crisis that in many ways gave an adult feel to the game compared to its predecessors. The storyline was very serious, but also featured scenes of comic relief. I thought the greatest aspect of the game was it featured a whole new level of customization. You could choose the characters to bring along and assign them relics which gave them special abilities, improved stats, or protection from status ailments. Splitting and adjusting the party to your liking makes the game all the more enjoyable. Side quests played a bigger role than they had in FFII and the graphics were improved. I recommend FFIII to any RPG fan, it's great!
