I Can See

I can see myself,
And I am alone.
Loneliness has begun to follow me.

I can see the pain and fear,
That does not follow on by,
As I watch my life go past.

I can see a small dark space,
That swallows and stifles and suffocates,
Any light or cry or breath.

I can see a throbbing gap,
That begs to be filled with a caring touch,
That can only be found in a dream.

I can see your caring touch,
That opens and sets me free,
But when it's gone I plunge into misery and despair.

I can see the hopeless tide,
That follows me like some whispering dream,
And god I wish it was just a dream.
