Against all Odds: Chapter 1

October 1995

Jacinda Carter took a look in the mirror. She looked at the girl staring back at her and it made her slouch. Sure she wasn't the prettiest 15 year old girl and she wasn't the funniest, but couldn't brains count for anything? Whenever she would go to the mall or she would go to formals and she'd see the other girls getting picked up by guys because they had the bouncy hair and a figure to die for. However, she was just a chubby little thing. Little being the operative word. She was short and didn't have half the curves or shapes that the other girls had. Her eyes were covered by glasses and her teeth were barred by braces.

After a minute of staring at herself, she glanced at her clock and saw that it was time to go to her uncle's office. She was home schooled and as part of her credit, had to intern somewhere. Her uncle Johnny was a manager for pop groups based out of Orlando and she loved going to his office to hear all the groups auditioning so that they could make their big break. She knocked on the door and smiled when her uncle opened it. "Jacinda. How are you honey?"he asked giving her a big hug. "I'm great. I want to thank you again for giving me this opportunity.

"Jacinda said. "Your mom told you to say that didn't she?"Johnny asked with a smirk. Jacinda smiled and nodded.

"Well there's no need to thank me. Now what you're going to be doing is helping me when groups come to audition. I figured since you're young and like to listen to music that you might help me from a young person's stand point. How does that sound?" Johnny asked. "Great, that sounds great. Thanks Johnny." She said giving him a hug. "Well good, now I have some work to do, but you are going to work the front desk too. Now I have two acts scheduled for today. I'm only going to sign one of them though. They're *Nsync and a girl singer named Angela Martin. So, just buzz me once they get here and we'll begin." Johnny said heading into his office.

Two hours passed before someone ran the intercom.

"Wright Entertainment. How can I help you?" Jacinda asked. "Yeah, umm...we..we have a meeting set with Mr. Wright for today. We're *Nsync." A male voice said nervously.

Little did Jacinda know that those words, "We're Nsync" would change her life forever.
