A leaping dog that knocked over a candle was blamed for a Saturday morning fire that destroyed a modular home on Wolf Road, according to Nevada County Consolidated Fire District.
The fire at 11122 Wolf Road was reported by neighbors at 1 a.m., and fire crews arrived to find the house's interior fully involved in flames, Battalion Chief Spike Newby said.
Newby said the fire started after house owner Gary Senard's dog jumped out a window to join Senard and a woman on a walk. In the process, the dog knocked over a candle that set fire to a bed.
Fire crews from Consolidated and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection cleared the scene by 4:50 a.m. Newby estimated the structural damage at $120,000, the loss of contents at $10,000.
Newby said Senard was in the process of moving out and had many of his belongings outside. He also said the house wasn't insured against fire.
