Before his year in Nanaimo, Kariya played midget hockey in North Vancouver. LAST SEASON Spent the year with University of Maine where he captained the Black Bears to a National Title……Was a Hobey Baker nominee as best collegiate player in the U.S.A….Finished fourth in the nation in scoring last season…. maintained a 3.33 grade point average this season which brought him GTE Academic All-America honours for the second straight year.
