Fall/Autumn

October Color Focus: Orange

Autumn Tree

Have each child paint the underneath of their arm from their elbow ...all the way down to their hand using brown tempera paint. Then, have them add fall colored tissue paper leaves all around the "trunk" of their tree.

Leaf Prints

Go out for a leaf collecting walk. Bring soft leaves back to the classroom and let children paint the underneath of the leaves to make prints onto paper.Make sure they don't use too much paint or the veins of the leaves will not show up.

Corn Cob Painting

Have the children use corn cobs to paint with. They roll their corn cob in paint that has been placed in a shallow cookie sheet and then roll their painted corn cob onto a piece of white paper. It is a nice fall project when teaching children about fall harvest foods. The children really enjoy the tactile experience of rolling the corn cobs in the paint.:)

"Leaves Are Falling" Song

Leaves are falling,Leaves are falling

To the Ground, To the Ground

First you have to rake them

Then you jump into them...

Fall is Fun!Fall is Fun!!

(Tune:Frere Jaque)

Thumbprint Owls

Have children press their thumb into brown paint thinly spread on a sponge to make a thumbprint on their paper.Add two small ears at the top of print with a brown marker for "ears" and two black eyes(black marker)and an orange "beak"(orange marker)and you have a very cute little owl print. You can have the children print their owls onto a piece of green construction paper cut into a tree shape and add a trunk to the green tree top. These are very cute!!
