SAN DIEGO... WHERE CALIFORNIA WAS BORN

' San Diego is the longest inhabited city in Alta California. It was founded as the mission of San Diego de Alcala in 1769, by padre Junipero Serra. Previous attempts to colonize it had been made by Cabrillo, and Cabral set up a presidio there. Spanish have been living in San Diego since before California even was Mexico. It was used as a stepping stone for further expeditions north by Spanish soldiers and Franciscan missionaries. San Diego survived as an agricultural center until the Americans took over California. It later became a large navy port of call. It didnt start industrializing until the late 60s, and never became an urban place like LA or San Francisco. I think San Diego is the pritiest city in the US. It is also home to a variety of barrios. THe barrios in San Diego are divide into the eight points on the compass. The largest one being perhaps East San Diego.

' The largest and perhaps oldest barrio in San Diego is Barrio Logan Heights wich in South West San Diego. They are in the San Diego equivalent to East Los. They have a rich history, and I assume were involved in the ZOOT SUIT RIOTS in San Diego, wich are lesser known.

San Diego is further divide into South and North county, and I believe East county as well. In North county there is Fallbrook, Carlsbad, ans Ocean Side Barrios. They too are home to various satellite cliques from LA and Orange County. They are old, but until recently the smallest region in Southern California Barrios, but have caught up well.

If any body wants to help me with the San Diego section it would be very much apreciated.
