Hiya! This page is dedicated to KAI.
Kai is a young all-Asian (most Filipino) R&B vocal group based out of the San Francisco bay area. Formed in 1992 by A.C. Lorenzo, the (originally 6)young men made a name for themselves in the Bay Area for their tight harmonies and
charismatic energy. The band KAI got their name from the word kaibigan of the Tagalog(Filipino) language that signifies brotherhood/friends. It seems a fitting name for this San Franciso-based R&B quartet, whose members have been friends ince they were children. AC, along with group members Errol Viray, Andre Silva, Leo
Chan (who is Chinese-American), Andrew Gapuz, and Lawrence de Guzman were picked up by former party promoter and independent radio promoter Brandon Cruz a couple years later. In 1996, the group felt that they were ready to begin recording their music for their fans to enjoy at home. When they teamed up with former House Jacks songwriter Tristan Bishop, the result was a hypnotic ballad, "Say You'll Stay," that crossed over the Rythmn and pop charts throughout the United States, selling nearly 400,000 copies nationwide. The success of their single propelled them into the national limelight, and offers from various record labels began to pour in. After signing with Geffen Records (whose founder, David Geffen is known for his contribution to Dreamworks, DGC, as well as Geffen Records), Kai is proud to be the
first all-Asian male group signed by a major record label in the US. Still affiliated to their independent label (which is co-owned by former member de Guzman and manager Cruz), these five young men are winning the hearts of fans nationwide with their self-titled, debut album for a May 1998 release. They have a new album out called "The Promise." Now they had a NEW member, Johnny Misa who replaced Andrew Gupaz. Can't wait til they had a new album out, hope it's soon.
