There are many stipulations which apply to tax exempt charities. Many equine rescue organizations have only recently applied for IRS 501(c)(3) status or are in the process of doing so and have not been granted such as yet. This does not mean such groups would not meet the criteria of the IRS, it is simply a record of the fact that they do not possess this certification currently. Contact the IRS directly for information relating to any particular group by calling 800-829-1040, or visit the pages below for specific IRS information at an office within your own state on any particular rescue groups operating there and information pertaining to the status of such group(s) with regard to IRS records:
