The History of Court Football

The sport of court football first got it's beginning sometime in 1997. In Happy Camp, California, 14-year old Robert LaHue was throwing a basketball up and down on his bed. Up and down. Up and down. He then missed the ball and it nailed him right in the nose. He then picked up his football and decided to throw that, since it didn't hurt as much as his basketball. He then started thinking: What if the sports of basketball and football were combined into a single sport that would be loved by everyone? (okay, that last probably won't happen, but a guy can dream, right?)

So, with that, the sport of court football began. Over the course of two years, LaHue experimented with his idea, testing out rules on a nearby basketball court, looking to make it all work out. It must have looked ridiculous to those driving by, seeing a teenager out on a basketball court, trying to kick a football over the top of a backboard (considering he was one of the placekickers on his high school football team, he was rather sucessful). Finally, in November of 1999, the first rules for court football was finished.

It was also in November of 1999 that the World Court Football Federation was formed in northern California. It was on the WCFF's website that the rules were published.
