Cloudy and humid.
Today was a good day. I got to bed very late last night. I stayed up a bit reading Harry Potter, but tried to fall asleep around 4. Fumihiko went to his mother's and then his Wrestling school in the morning, but I mostly slept through all that! I was sleeping, but the phone woke me up. Someone was calling my husband at 8:45am in Japanese. Ahhhhh! I can't believe I actually answered the phone. I must stop doing that. Anyway, I took a message, checked my email, and then went back to sleep.
I was having the strangest dream when Fumihiko came home. I was a counsellor at a home for disturbed or somehow mentally challenged men. The men came back from a field trip and I was asking one of them how his trip had been. He looked just like Johnny Depp! However, he had not had a good trip. He'd been molested by someone else on the trip. Before I could help him, Fumihiko came home and made noise so I woke up. I tried to get back into the dream to help, but I couldn't. Sigh. Just my luck. A dream about Johnny Depp and he's out of bounds for me.
I went back to sleep and was horrified when I woke up over an hour later. I expected that hubby would wake me up because he had plans for today. Anyway, he just let me sleep. Kinda nice of him.
When I got up we had some coffee and Fumihiko watched something on the telly. I had a messaging chat with a friend in Canada. After that, we went for lunch. To Gusto.
It wasn't bad today, and we had a fairly decent meal. Then, it was time to head off into the hills. It was a nice drive. Fumihiko has to bring one of his bosses on the route next week, so he wanted to check it out for both time and place. I was just happy to be out of Tsuruoka. Yay. It was lovely in the mountains. The trees are green, there are still a few small waterfalls, and the road wasn't too busy.
When we found the place, Fumihiko wanted to just turn around and go back, but I made him stop for a bottle of tea for me. We came back the same way, except made a slight detour and went up to the Gassan Dam. That was neat. I started thinking about the movie Force 10 from Navarone (yeah, the book IS better!), and explained the basic plot to him. Then I worried that maybe people could hear me and would think that gaijin me was plotting to do something bad to the dam. There wasn't anyone around, but you never know who might be listening eh? I snapped a few pictures (is that suspicious?) and then we went on our way again.
We got back to Tsuruoka after one more brief washroom stop. I had asked that we go to Yamaya on the way home to pick up a few "foreign" foods, so that's what we did. I got more tortillas, some crispbread/crackers and Fumihiko got some beer.
He asked me where I wanted to have dinner, but I had no idea. So, he suggested a really fancy French restaurant that the two of us have never gone to together. I had been there once, about 9 years ago with my friend Taeko for lunch. I wasn't sure it would be okay, but he seemed to think it was. Anyway, that's where we went. We had a gorgeous meal. I was worried because some things seemed rather expensive, but it was very good. We had Yonezawa beef, but also two kinds of appetizers, soup, and dessert with coffee. It was fabulous. I really shouldn't have eaten all of it, but I did. Sigh.
We made a quick trip to the grocery store for breakfast stuff and then came home. I wanted to watch Wedding Crashers. I hadn't seen it before and had heard it was funny. It was. Fumihiko liked it too, and even stayed awake through the whole thing. We enjoyed it.
Fumihiko went off to bed a while ago and I'm still here. I didn't get to read any of my Harry Potter today. Argh. I may have to devote tomorrow to the cause. It's my day off. I have thoughts of taking my book off to a coffee shop and just vegging and reading. Not sure if that's a good idea. It depends on the weather.
