July 5, 2007 - Thursday

Rainy and cloudy all day.

Today was a mostly quiet stay at home day. I had thought about going out, but the weather was awful, so I stayed home. I watched some taped TV and also did something that I've been putting off for a while. I went through some of my clothing drawers and threw out things that didn't fit, I don't wear, or was needing repairs (that I'd never do). I still have a drawer to look through, but I culled about a bag of stuff. I did have an allergy attack though, so my closet must be a bit dusty. Sigh.

Hubby and I had dinner at Benkei. It was very nice, and it was his choice. We had a lot of "Japanese" dishes". Very good stuff. After the meal we bought a few things at the grocery store for dinner tomorrow night. We're going away this weekend, so we don't want to have leftovers, and we'll be eating out a lot, so I'd prefer to eat at home tomorrow.

In the evening I asked hubby if he was going to take off any days for summer holidays and he got a bit annoyed at me. I'm not really sure why. My students tend to ask at this time of year when and if my school will close for a vacation. He said he wouldn't take any more days off ever. I said, that's okay, but I'll take some off probably and do something by myself. I didn't ask him to commit to something now, I just need him to start thinking about it. Otherwise, what always happens is that he'll spring his days off on me at the last moment and I won't be able to give students proper warning.

He's off sleeping now. I'm not sure why he got so grumpy all of a sudden. Maybe he thinks that I want him to pay for everything? Not true.

Anyway...on with the meme.

This is KC's music meme...I'm just getting to it now. Sorry. I found it to be very thought provoking. If you're interested in doing it too, leave a message in the comments section please.

5 - You are going on a long journey, what five albums MUST you take with you? Albums that you need to listen to regularly.

... KC and I have the same answer. I have an iPod too, so I needn't take actual cds. But...here goes anyway.

1) Taking the Long Way - Dixie Chicks

2) Eurythmics - Greatest Hits - Eurythmics

3) It Had to Be You - Rod Stewart

4) Gordon - Barenaked Ladies

5) Time *Sex* Love - Mary Chapin Carpenter

4 - What 4 albums/songs do you most associate with a journey or travel experience? You know, the ones you listen to that instantly transport you back to a place and time.

1) Fleetwood Mac - Tango in the Night//Song "Seven Wonders" Why? I used to listen to the cassette when I took the long bus trip from my university to home during my college days. I had almost every song memorized, even the Stevie Nicks ones. ( I don't like her!)

2) Right Said Fred - Up//Song "Don't Talk Just Kiss" This is a different kind of journey. This was a journey of the heart rather than of the road.

3) Eartha Kitt - Miss Kitt, To You//Song "Just An Old Fashioned Girl" After my mother died I started listening to her favourite artists. Eartha was one of her favourite artists. I'm afraid I didn't let her listen to Eartha because I was too busy hogging the record player with my favourite pop singers. It's a hilarious song.

4) Billy Joel - The Essential Billy Joel//Song "You're My Home" Billy Joel is an artist that my husband likes as much as I do. When we drive to one of our favourite shopping cities we often end up playing a lot of Billy Joel. This song is an old one that I'd never heard before I got this cd, but it sums up my relationship with my guy.

3 - Your three favourite songs of all time?

Ain't That a Kick in the Head? - Dean Martin Like many of Dean's songs this one is funny, and romantic. I love it.

A Criminal Mind - Larry Gowan The first song of his that I remember. It's still cool. "I have no guilt to haunt me, I feel no wrong intent.."

Brian Wilson - Barenaked Ladies I like the version from Gordon best.

2 - Two feel good songs, the ones that are guaranteed to lift the blues and put a smile on your face.

If I had $1000000 - Barenaked Ladies They talk about treehouses, Art Garfunkle and the Elephant Man. It's funny and it's a great sing-a-long song.

"Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)" - attributed to Baz Luhrman Just a bunch of advice, but it's pithy and done in a light way. I like the line

"Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life. The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't."
How true is that? I've felt that way all my life...still do.

1 - Absolute, overall, undoubtedly the best album of all time, in your opinion.

Roxy Music - Avalon I could listen to this one forever. It was the first cd I bought when I got my first cd player, and the first one I packed to come to Japan. I still have it.

This was a tough list to compile, but enjoyable. It's also apt to change in about 5 minutes too, when I remember other "favourites". Still, I do like most of these cds or songs. Anyone want to do it?? I'll take names below if yes!
