Nice sunny day.
A strange day. When Fumihiko got up this morning, we had an actual conversation. I was mostly asleep though, so it was a bit strange. I wanted to tell him that the coffee I'd made for him wasn't our usual decafe, it was Sumatra blend with caffeine. I told him that, and we also had a conversation about Teri Hatcher of Desperate Housewives. She'd had an accident on the set, and I wanted to tell him about that.
I woke up finally at 11:00am. I was quite shocked as I had planned to get up at 9:00 am. I didn't do it. Sigh. I found a note on the table. Last night I had written Fumihiko a short note that said,"Not decafe coffee! Sumatra blend. Enjoy." I also drew a big heart underneath it. I found the note had been changed to say, "Not desperate coffee!!! Sumatra blend. It's good coffee!! Enjoy." I was tickled pink with the changes he'd made.
I checked email and stuff, then made breakfast. I had my usual sausages and omelette, but I did something unusual. I put some of last night's curry sauce over my omelette. I heated it up first of course. Oh, my gosh, was that ever nice! What a taste sensation. Yummmmmy.
Last night, somewhere in my dreams, I remembered that the Shonai Bank had a vending machine for US travellers cheques and US cash. Great! I could go there, not have to worry about speaking in Japanese (the machines are bilingual), and do the stuff I need to do for my trip. So, around 2, I put on some going out clothes, get out my bicycle and ride to the bank. It was a lovely day, warm and sunny and I enjoyed getting out of the house so much. I get to the bank, park my bike, and go in.
The branch had been completely renovated. Oh my. I couldn't see the travellers cheque machine. I asked the information lady for travellers cheques - thinking she'd direct me to the machine, but she used a touchscreen thingy, gave me a ticket and told me to sit down. A couple of minutes later another lady came and got me and we went into her cubicle. I wrote down what I wanted to make it easier to understand and she went off and got the rates. When she came back she showed me that the US travellers cheques didn't come in the package that I wanted, but that was okay. I increased my amount. By this time I was thinking that the machine must have been removed. I asked if she could take the money out of my account, but she told me to use the ATM. So, I walked all the way across the branch to the Japanese cash ATM, past the US travellers cheque machine. Oh well, I thought. I'm committed to this clerk. I should just let her help me. I got the cash out, went back to the cubicle. From there, both of us went to the travellers cheque machine to get my US cash. I put my Japanese cash in, I got US cash out. Then, we went back to the cubicle where she got me my US travellers cheques. What a rigamarole! BUT, she was very professional, and nice. She also knew how to sell them. Not like the post office guy who messed it up and was rude besides! She made me sign them in front of her, gave me the brochure with the phone numbers and then sent me on my way. Great!
After all of that, I decided to do something I haven't done in ages. I went to cd-brain. It's one of Tsuruoka's second hand cd stores. It is literally wall to wall cds. I spent a long time looking and got three. I got Linda Ronstadt with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Elton John Live in Australia (I used to have the cassette in university) and Leonard Cohen's Greatest Hits Volume One. The last one is for Fumihiko. When I paid for the cds the guy asked me if I'd been there before, he thought he remembered me. I had, but not for a couple of years. Cool.
I came home, and a few minutes Fumihiko arrived. He got off work early to go to the doctor again. He took a shower and we chatted for a while. Then, he left. He'd be at the doctors for at least an hour.
When he came back he was feeling much better. He'd had some kind of injection into his spine. He's still in a bit of pain, but nothing like before. We went out for dinner to La Chance, the buffet place. It was okay tonight, but there wasn't a lot of food for me.
We bought a few groceries then came home and watched The Matrix Reloaded. I enjoyed it. It was fun to watch again.
And that pretty much was my day. Fumihiko is still up at 2 am and watching a Bruce Lee movie in Chinese. It has Japanese subtitles. I'm trying to get him to go to bed, but it isn't working!
What will I do tomorrow? I don't know yet! Tune into find out!
