August 10, 2000 - Thursday
Today was the day of the butterflies. On the way to work I saw at least 4 beautiful
butterflies. It was wonderful. One of them was big and black or dark dark blue.
It's amazing that something so beautiful could live in a city.
Other than that, my day was pretty average. I taught 4 lessons, they went pretty
well. I did more lobby service today and after school I even vacuumed. I couldn't
believe it, but it was starting to need it.
I was invited to go out for a drink tonight, but to be honest, with the heat I am
just wiped out at the end of the day. I think it must be too hot for me to sleep
properly. I hope that's all it is.
I think it's raining now. I hope it cools things down.
I have been in Otaru for two months now. I have a few observations that I'd like
to share about the difference between Tsuruoka and Otaru.
The rice is much, much better in Tsuruoka. The sushi is good in both places.
The people are friendlier in Tsuruoka, but more people speak English in Otaru.
The movie theater is better in Otaru. It is amazing.
Tsuruoka was more convenient as far as grocery stores. My local grocery store stayed
open until midnight. I miss that.
Well, those are my observations after two months. Check back and I'll see if I can
write more next month!
