England 2000

GLASTONBURY

Glastonbury Abbey

We shared the entire grounds with another couple - they were from New Zealand. I guess the rain scared everyone else away.

Glastonbury Tor

One of my favorite spots in all of England. I'm a Marion Zimmer Bradley fan, not to mention an Arthurian fanatic. This, they believe, was once called Avalon, which meant "Island of the Apples" and was surrounded by water in ancient times. Now, it's often surrounded by a low fog bank which gives the illusion of still being an island. When you get closer to the Tor, you'll see the remains of a spiral mazework which some believe was the route of a procession. I use that theory in my Starrling's Flight story. I bought a postcard in the village - apparently for New Years 2000 they placed torches all along the maze - I'd like to scan that sometime and post it here for you. It's a magickal sight.
