Yankee Harbour Cemetery

Yankee Harbour, Guysborough County, N.S.

Red Divider Bar

This listing was provided by Archie Munroe,

Red Divider Bar

This listing is for a small cemetery at the abandoned fishing village of Yankee Harbour.
There are no stones or markers for any graves.
Information from Baptismal, marriage and church membership records prove
that persons buried in the cemetery had lived there.
Arthur Peitzsch, who gave Archie the list of names,
had them given to him by his father,
who was almost a life long resident of Yankee Harbour
(sometimes called Yankee Cove). At its population peak,
the village had only ten families. Given the lack of dates and information,
some of the other facts included may be helpful to those who are researching.

The following is additional information provided by Peggy Feltmate

One other child of Cyrus and Harriet Feltmate
who is probably buried at Yankee Harbour is their son
Clarence E. Feltmate
born 6 June 1886 in Yankee Harbour
(Methodist baptismal records) and who died in 1906 at age 10.

Another son of Cyrus and Harriet lived to marry and
have children but is buried at Yankee Harbour:
Walter Havelock Feltmate
born 21 Aug 1892 at Yankee Harbour
(Methodist baptismal records) , died 5 Feb 1934 in Yankee Harbour of tuberculosis,
buried at Yankee Harbour 8 Feb 1934
by D. S. MacLeod, Methodist minister (Methodist burial records).

With regard to John and Matilda Feltmate,
this is John Henry Feltmate of Yankee Harbour
who married Matilda BARRETT, not Bisset, on 13 Dec 1873.
They were, surprisingly, married at St Mary Roman Catholic Church in Halifax by license
but moved back to live in Yankee Harbour/ Whitehead Harbour.
