LARGER THAN LIFE REWIEW
Backstreet Boys
Larger than Life (3:52) Jive
The infectious second single from Backstreet Boys' multi-platium opus "millenniums is the natural follow-up to the No. 1 Hot 100 Airplay track ""I want it that way" making a return to the signature beat-happy sound of past songs llike (Everybody) Backstreet's Back." Full of catcalling, with a groove that puts hot coals under your feet and a chorus as invigorating and fired up as the quintet's career, this track sounds like it will be the group's first No.1 on the Billboard Hott 100, provided that Jive issues a commerical single this time around. (They did not for "I want it that way", robbing the boys of a certian chart-topper) Writtend by Max Martin, Brian Littrel, and Kristian Lundin, the song delivers the group's trademark explosive intrumenation, trade-off vocals, and groomed harmonies.
"Millennium is ever so rich in singles possibilities (Show me the Meaning of Being Lonely," is a phenomenon waiting to happen)-these guys are just getting warmed up. How about that?

Don't even bother wondering about a sophomore slump here. The first single from the Backstreet Boys' forthcoming ``Millennium'' is the quintet's most inspirational single ever, showcasing exquisitely layered harmonies, an instantaneous melody, and the potential to at last take these guys to the top of the pop chart. Commandeered by pop/boy band aficionado Max Martin, ``I Want It That Way'' starts with a simple acoustic guitar, sparking into a gently chugging midtempo verse, and then igniting into a chorus so exhilarating, so uplifting, that it feels almost spiritual in nature. This record demonstrates mighty growth on all fronts and should expand the Boys' reach past their teen core. And just wait until summer, when ``I Want It'' will sound oh-so-great in the car or on the beach. It certainly sets things up nicely for the album's drop date of May 18. A genuinely triumphant return that will quickly usher Backstreet back to rule the boy band roost.

Backstreet's Back, Back, Back! This delish' first taster from the Boys' new album should soothe anybody suffering from PMS (Pre-Millenium Stress). A simple pop song (not really dancey, not too slow) featuring all five BSBs on lead vocal, I Want It That Way...sounds like absolutely nobody except the Backstreet Boys. And there is nothing wrong with that! 5/5
