YM Rising Star Concert

Location: Shrine Auditorium

Ok, this concert was a fundraiser for the charity Habitat for Humanity, hosted by YM Magazine. It featured Mista Brizz (an original member of LFO), Divine, the Moffats, and Britney Spears. It was a lot of fun; they gave us free beachballs to throw around during the show, free Maybelline makeup (as much as you could carry!), and played awesome videos during the breaks (so *that's* what s STEPS video looks like!)...anyway, here's a play-by-play...

Arrival: We arrived at the venue around 4:30pm, which was in the middle of booty-schmack downtown LA. (So we are a little overzealous when it comes to getting to shows...) Anyway, it was freakin *FREEZING* and we waited in line until around 6:15 when they finally decided to let us in. I made friends with all the teeny boppers around me and got the scoop that there would be an after party later that night. The girls were all Moffats fans, which i had barely ever heard of, and was surprised that they even *Had* fans. Our eventful two hours consisted of my sister getting caught trying to sneak in after LFO and a sighting of the Moffats (whoopee!).

Inside: They handed out all the cool free stuff and then we went and sat down. JOJO, a local dj here (and friend of Meesh and Britt's) was there, but we didn't even get close to him. We also sat next to a girl who was chummy with Lance from NSYNC's cousin (with pics to prove it... ok, so that was a highlight for me! sue me!) We had little neon signs that said RICH ROCKS, and something else, I can't remember.

Mista Brizz: How can I put this nicely? He sucks. I'm sorry, but he was hilariously funny...and I don't think that was the object. He had two really really bad girl dancers. Actually, he was so bad I think I blocked his performance out because I can't seem to think of anything else to say... Moving on..

Divine: These girls are so cute! I didn't really know any of their songs or anything, but they were entertaining at least. They had some hot guy dancers, and the chemistry between them all was really adorable. Oh, and they can sing! =)

The Moffats: I have one word to sum up this performance: *SHOCK*. As in, I was in. When I first heard about these boys, I just figured "oh yeah, another Hanson.." but BOY was I wrong! First of all, they dress nothing like Hanson.. more like glam rockers, with sequins, long coats, leather pants and those cute little cowboy hats (Think AJ from BSB). Also, these guys don't play bubblegum, they play *real* rock. As in they did a cover of Metallica's "Until it Sleeps." The Moffat boys are really talented and I really enjoyed their performance.

LFO: Ah, one of the main reasons I went to this show... Well, after Summer Music Mania, I went out and bought this album and I listened to it for the rest of the summer. These guys have such fun, upbeat songs its hard not to like them... I was excited because they did all my favorite songs, like "Girl on TV," "Westside Story," and "Baby Be Mine," as well as their hit "Summer Girls." Oh, and we held up our neon sign that said RICH ROCKS and he saw it! YAY!

Britney:Ok, I'm sort of ashamed to admit it, but she was the *real* reason I went. I love her, I can't explain it. Anyway, Britney blew me away... her popularity has just EXPLODED! I could not believe I was seeing the same girl I saw opening for NSYNC last January, Britney has come a LONG way. This set was very similar to her normal show, without any of her covers, just original material. Of course, she had her dancers out, which made us very happy (Go TJ!). One interesting thing was during "From the Bottom of My Broken Heart"... I swear, the girl sounded like she was about to cry. (remind you of your Justy, BritBrit?)

After the Show: Seeing as this was my first night living in my new dorm room, I had to head back to school instead of going to the after-party. Aww, it's ok, I'll live. Anyway, as I was leaving (all alone in a scary neighborhood, I might add), I was stopped just outside the venue to let some cars from backstage get out... and who do I see? All the performers! They were going to the after-party in a bunch of vans, and I saw them all through the windows of the van. That was pretty cool.
