Ex- New Kid on the Block Joey McIntyre has started his own quick tour of the U.S. I was not familiar with his album, but with a seat in the front row of the pit, how could I resist. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with Joey's performance. His voice is amazing and flawless live, and he's an energetic performer. Joey opened with his own special version of "Play that Funky Music," in which he changed the words to suit his teen idol past. My favorite songs off of his new album are still the two singles, "Stay the Same" and "I Love You Came Too Late." I did enjoy, however, Joey's song entitled "Let Me Take You For a Ride," complete with cowboy hat and giddy-up moves. I was also surprised that Joey actually performed two songs from his NKOTB days: "Please Don't Go Girl," and "The Right Stuff." It reminded me how much of a New Kids fan I was when I was a little girl. (I'm amazed I actually remembered all the words!) Joey even did the signature "Right Stuff" choreography, the penguin dance! I think the fifty bucks I spent on that ticket was all worth it for that! The opening acts for this show included a group called MDO (the new improved Menudo), and ex- mouseketeer Christina Aguilera. MDO is a latin boy band, with catchy tunes that are enjoyable even if you aren't fluent in Spanish. Their fast paced dance moves and slammin dance beats are energizing and contagious. Heck, the guys are even hot! (Especially Anthony!) Christina was also impressive, performing a five song set, including "Reflection" from the Mulan soundtrack and her hit single "Genie In a Bottle." One complaint about Christina: too much hairdye, makeup, and she's way too airhead-like. Vocally though, Christina is amazing. Her huge, Celine Dion-like voice comes from a petite, barely more than five foot frame and blows the audience away. Joey McIntyre's show was impressive, himself and his band alike. Even if you don't think you will enjoy it, Joey can change your mind. His grin is contagious and so is his personality, which shines through. I would definitely recommend this show. He's only on tour for about a month, so catch him while you can!
