Ah, yes, our dear friends the Backstreet Boys finally embarked on their US tour in support of their second album, Millenium. It's about time. It's no wonder they're in such demand, they don't do *any* appearances. (Think about it, you know I'm right.) Anyway, as being the glutton for punishment that I am, not only did I set out for two and a half hours of Backstreet fun, I brought along the whole family! (including my sister, her best friend, my mom *AND* my dad.) Actually, the night turned out to be a lot of fun, and the show was really entertaining. Want a play-by-play? Of course you do!
Arrival: Ever wonder why people say they hate Los Angeles? Maybe because it takes them TWO FREAKIN HOURS to go a distance that only should take 20-30 mins. My dad picked me up from the dorms two hours before the show started, and I swear, I was going to cry because I thought we were gonna be late (which i shouldn't have worried about, you'll see why later..). Oh yeah, and ever wonder why it seemed NO fans were actually going to the show? That's because 75% of the tickets were in the hands of scalpers! Everyone was out alongside the road hawking tickets.. I think I even saw my Grandma out there...
Opening Act: The opening act for this show was... ::drumroll please:: EYC. Can you say EW? I'm sorry, but I am NOT an EYC fan, I just can't stand them. I've seen them several times before, and I wasn't impressed. So after rushing to get in there so we wouldn't be late, I was greeted by them. What did I do? Walked right back outside, and stayed there until they were finished. (I'm a brat, ok?) They performed for about half an hour and boy was I glad when it was over.
The interlude: Maybe it's just me, but I thought the point of an opening act is to warm the crowd up for the main performer. Not so in BSB-land. EYC comes out, does their thing and the crowd is ready for some *real* singing. What happens? We sit and wait for 45 mins for Backstreet to come out. Interesting tactic. :P
BSB (finally!): My, oh my. There's so much to comment on! Let me see, I'll narrow it down to the highlights:
- The Star Wars intro... must we always copy Nsync?
- Flying during "Quit Playin Games"...see above.
- Kevin got stuck during "Quit Playin Games"... they left him there for a few minutes before lowering him into the audience. Wish I was sitting there!
- AJ actually hit the ending note on "Larger Than Life"... now I owe my sister a dollar.
- Throwing stuffed animals into the audience... cute!
- The dancers...EW? I could get out there and shake my stuff better!
- Howard (I refuse to call him HOWIE)...Just.. *NO*..
- Nick doing pelvic thrusts... Dude, you're my friend and all, but STOP THAT! I'm scarred for life now..
- BAD PACING! who's idea was it to do all the good fast songs in one big medley? I thought I was gonna nod off during all the slow songs...
- They sang "Spanish Eyes." Need I say more?
- Sex Poles during "Don't Want You Back." Interesting. Thank God Nick wasn't in front of me.
- Costuming... It sucked. Whoever did that is in desperate need of taste. Pink suits? What were they thinking?
- My dad's trip to the men's room.. where he heard the comment "Thank God they let Howie sing so we can go pee."
- Kevin played piano for "The Way Back to your Heart"... that was awesome!
- Nick's ass...People say it's big. I kind of think its cute...
Ok, That's all I can think of for now. I know you're probably thinking I'm a mean old witch, but I'm not really! I love the BSB! They're just so easy to mock. =)
