1968 - 1978 General Electric Co.
The Installation and Service Engineering Department of the General Electric Company is a world-wide pooled service organization composed of approximately 2,000 mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineers located in some 87 offices. The department creates services to meet the needs of General Electric Turbine purchases in the fields of installation, maintainance, and training.
During my first three years, I was with the General Electric Technical Services Company, Inc., Apparatus Installation and Service Engineering Overseas Operation. GETSCO performs the overseas functions of the department. Because of manpower cost it was necessary for one engineer to do the complete turbine-generator installation and start-up.
My responsibilites when moving to the Los Angeles District included start-up engineering of the gas turbine equipment and the training of its users. By the end of three years I was assigned the duties of acting Gas Turbine Manager. When General Electric decided to pursue the training business, my past skills and experience led me to the position of Western Region Training Coordinator. In this position I developed all types of training courses, made market studies, sales presentations, organized the class presentations, and conducted the training when necessary. I was also responsible for pricing, budgeting, customer satisfaction, and reporting on my group function to our Sales Manager. Within one year of my promotion our training sales had doubled to $172,000, by the end of my second year it had doubled again. I was the first person to hold this position which required first time organization. The position was later created in other regions.
1978 - 1980 Ceromet Inc.
In my position as National Sales Manager for a powder metal parts and engineering company, I forecast sales, supervised two customer relations people and trained and motivated twelve sales representatives nation wide.
In the two years that I had the position of National Sales Manager for Ceromet, sales doubled by motivating and training the five sales representatives on contract and adding seven more. I also increased the confidence of our current customers by a program of continued sales calls nation wide, which included multi-media seminars.
