Reeves Band Newspaper Clippings and obituary

We would go to Santa Maria every year.
On the way we stopped at "Santa Claus", for frosty ice cream cones

Roberta Linn, from the Lawrence Welk show.
I was a young person and she seemed to have a lot of wrinkles.

In 1951, my dad bought me a new "Beuscher" trombone for $210.
Mr. Reeves liked the Beuscher instruments from Elkhorn, Indiana.

That new big red bus was beautiful.
We all felt special driving up in it.
We toured the State parks in our bus, playing at each one.

Jimmy Reeves is the cornet player, top left.

We heard 10 yrs later, that little Pat Cover died at Army basic training of Meningitis.

Obituary October 20, 1968

One of the music selections as Mr. Reeves was nearing retirement was an old love song
"Silver Threads Among The Gold". It was played as a trombone ensemble special.

Darling I am Growing Old

Lyrics: Eben E. Rexford Composer: H.P. Danke

Darling, I am growing old,
Silver threads among the gold
Shine upon my brow today
Life is fading fast away.

But, my darling, you will be, will be
Always young and fair to me
Yes, my darling, you will be
Always young and fair to me.

When your hair is silver white
And your cheeks no longer bright
With the roses of the May
I will kiss your lips and say.

Oh! my darling, mine alone, alone
You have never older grown
Yes, my darling, mine alone
You have never older grown.

Love can never more grow old
Locks may lose their brown and gold
Cheeks may fade and hollow grow
But the hearts that love will know.

That, my darling, you will be, will be
Always young and fair to me
Yes, my darling, you will be
Always young and fair to me.

Mr. Reeves loved Gladys and he loved his band and each band member. We were blessed to be noticed and to be part of a wonderful experience.
