Nahum 2

Nah 2:1 He that dasheth (scatters) in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily.

Judah would be scattered as they had scattered the northern tribes of Israel so that they would no longer be a nation. Assyria prepares for the attack of the Medes and Babylonians.

Munitions: siege-works, stronghold, rampart. Hold the fort, secure the stronghold.

Nah 2:2 For the LORD hath turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: for the emptiers have emptied them out, and marred their vine branches.

The LORD had allowed Israel and Judah to be plundered and taken away, so how will Assyria escape the LORD's displeasure?

Nah 2:3 The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken.
Nah 2:4 The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings.

The shields of the invaders were made red, the clothing is scarlet: the steel chariots gleam with might in battle. The battle is fast and furious as lightnings they strike. Nazi Gemany had war movements called the blitzkrieg: lightning war of speed and surprise light tank units supported by planes and foot soldiers. Operation "Desert Storm" was after this description.

Nah 2:5 He shall recount his worthies: they shall stumble in their walk; they shall make haste to the wall thereof, and the defence shall be prepared.
Nah 2:6 The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.
Nah 2:7 And Huzzab shall be led away captive, she shall be brought up, and her maids shall lead her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts.

The invaders probably built a series of dams so that they could easily approach the city. The flood gates were opened and the city defenses were dissolved. The Assyrian king Huzzab is led away captive and Nineveh is displaced and humiliated. Huzzab means to stand, stand upright. Huzzab had fallen.

Nah 2:8 But Nineveh is of old like a pool of water: yet they shall flee away. Stand, stand, shall they cry; but none shall look back.
Nah 2:9 Take ye the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold: for there is none end of the store and glory out of all the pleasant furniture.
Nah 2:10 She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.

Zep 1:8 And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD'S sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.

There was a great plunder of the wealth of the city.

Nah 2:11 Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion's whelp, and none made them afraid?
Nah 2:12 The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin.

Joel 2:6 Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.

Hos 5:13 When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then went Ephraim to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: yet could he not heal you, nor cure you of your wound.
Hos 5:14 For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him.

Job 4:10 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
Job 4:11 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad. The lion was the symbol of the nation. Here the lion is mocked. Where is the lion and it's prey to feed it's pride of lions?

Nah 2:13 Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard. Assyria fell by the will of God.

Jer 51:34 Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his belly with my delicates, he hath cast me out.
