Our Father

Mat 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

This is the beginning of what is called, the Lord's Prayer. Actually, it is His example of how to pray.

Our Father which art in heaven... The Most High God, because of our faith in Jesus, is now our Father. Not our earthly father, but our Spiritual Father, in heaven.

Hallowed, holy and sacred is His name. We are not to speak of our Father in a crude way. Sometimes strangers call me "Dude," or "Bud," they do not know me, and I do not respond, feeling respected, by those names. We must be careful how we speak of our Father.

The Jewish people would not write His name. They wrote the name without vowels, thinking it not proper to speak His Holy name. They would write letters such as; Jwh, where we get Jehovah, or Ywh, often spoken of as Yaweh. In truth, the English name, "God," is not very descriptive. To speak of our Father as "god," is not showing the respect due, for the pagans worship "gods," who may well be bad spirits, not of God, but of the devil. To honor our Father and to bring Him glory, we speak of what we know about him. Our Father, the Creator, our Loving God, full of mercy and truth. He is all good and he is all wise. He is just and all knowing, in all places and in all times. He knows the past, present and future. We certainly can trust Him. King David wrote Psalms by the Holy Spirit, describing our Father.

Psa 61:2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
Psa 61:3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

Psa 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Psa 91:2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

The angels sing praises unto our Father, God.

Isa 6:3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

We shall always have the greatest of respect for our loving heavenly Father.

Thy Kingdom Come

Mat 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

The Lord's prayer continues speaking of the Father's kingdom. May it come, where? It is a Spiritual kingdom and God is Spirit. The Holy Spirit dwells within, and is hallowed, holy, set apart, just as the Father. His kingdom, Jesus spoke of as coming within the Christian, by the Holy Spirit. It is the glorious presence of absolute goodness, the dwelling place of the Father. The kingdom is the perfect mind of Christ, who showed us in His body, the example of the character and works of His Father. This will is learned by reading the Bible, especially the New Testament. In the end, the kingdom will be an actual Spiritual dwelling place as described in Revelation.

Rev 21:16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal...

We are not in this prayer concerned about an actual kingdom, but more the character and will of God the Father. Jesus said if you have seen Him, Jesus, you have seen the Father.

John 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Jesus shed His blood to remove our sins. We are to live for him as people of a higher kingdom, the kingdom of our Holy Father. This is not our home. Our eternal home is with God, a Holy people, set aside for His purpose.

Sin and rebellion have kept us separated from God and His will and from each other.

Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Rom 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

To have the mind of Christ is to have the will of God, here and now. Jesus brought us to the Father's presence, we are kingdom people, the children of God. We are one in Spirit with the Father and with those of His Spirit. There should be no divisions, all are connected through His Spirit.

Simplified, we are to pray to our Holy Father and bring his will into our lives, so that others will see Him and be drawn to Him, through Jesus, His Son.

Daily Bread

Mat 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.

In the natural, we need daily food. God knows this. Let's look at some of the verses and see what is required to receive food.

Prov 27:18 Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.

Two levels, the natural provision and the spiritual.

Eccl 3:13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

Mat 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
Mat 6:32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

A condition is given, first we seek the kingdom of God, the things of God and then all things that we need will be added to us. We still must work for food, God gives us the ability to work. If unable to work, God is faithful.

The Spiritual is more important than the physical. There is a natural bread and also a spiritual bread. Jesus said that He is the bread of life.

John 6:31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
John 6:32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
John 6:33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
John 6:34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

Jesus was more concerned with doing the Father's work, as He wants us to put him first.

John 4:30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
John 4:31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
John 4:32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
John 4:33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
John 4:34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

We need to eat food and be nourished. Many have eating disorders which make them unable to eat. I think satan is at the root of this. Also many eat too much, there should be moderation.

Phil 3:18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
Phil 3:19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
Phil 3:20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

Give us this day, our daily bread.

We seek you first our Father, your will and we wish to obey you. Then we know you will provide our daily bread. Lord God, I ask that those who are unable to eat at this time, would seek you. For you have promised to give us our daily nourishment as we seek your way. Free those who are afflicted. Remove curses and bad memories. May all thoughts be on you our Father and your Son Jesus, amen. We want to study the word of God, in the Bible. This is our daily bread from God's kingdom.

Forgive

Mat 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Jesus explains this further:

Mat 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Mat 6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Remember Jesus on the cross, cruelly whipped and beaten, stripped of his clothing, Nailed hands and feet and suspended on a cross, suffering unjustly, taking our sins upon himself? He spoke words of grace:

Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.

Think of forgiveness in this way. Is there anyone who you would want to spend an eternity in Hell's torment? If possible, I think you would want them to receive Jesus and be changed. To have everlasting life with the family of God. Do not let satan torment you with past hurts. Forgive them and give them over to God. Let him work on their hearts. This doesn't mean you approve of what they do or did. If they have sinned, they will face God, they cannot escape. We belong to God and are to serve him. This way you are free. For if we cannot forgive, our Father will not forgive us. All have sinned, but through Jesus, our great forgiver, we are forgiven and free to love and be loved, in God's way.

I receive your forgiveness Father, through Jesus I am forgiven. I release my hurts to you, forgiving as I am forgiven. You will make all things right. You are a God of justice and mercy. I receive your mercy and grace. Fill me with your Spirit, I belong to you.

Deliver us

Mat 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Lead us not into temptation, yes it is possible that God may lead us into temptation to test us. Remember that after Jesus was baptized, the Spirit of God came down to him as a dove, and His Father spoke from heaven:

Mat 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Mat 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

This was for our benefit, for through Jesus we know how to get through temptations. He quoted God's word!

Mat 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Mat 4:7 Jesus said unto him (the devil), It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Mat 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Mat 4:11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Jesus showed us that by God's word we can resist the devil and temptations. My favorite promise from the Bible about temptations and trials is 1 Corinthians 10:13. Many have been released from satan's bondage by believing this word of God. Jesus is our freedom.

1 Cor 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

God promises you a way to escape. He keeps His promises. He understands your temptations.

Heb 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

God is not evil, he will not tempt you nor bring you evil. We may pray to the Father, he is our Father who loves us. He will guide us, for he loves us and knows the path he has for us.

James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Many fall to the false pleasures of the devil. When we are drawn to what seems to be the worlds best, we find it is a trap. Satan seeks to keep us bound, and then he blames us, for what he has done. Put off the accusations of the devil and put on faith in Jesus. His word is life. Put on your spiritual armour, faith in God's word will free you from bondages and temptations. We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and we testify that His word is true. His word is life and power to be a child of God, to overcome the devil.

Lead me not into temptations but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
