One last Wish
[Chapter 8]
VERY IMPORTANT AUTHOR'S NOTE: I just wanted to let everyone know, before I start getting harrassed, that yes I do mention BSB and Britney Spears in a not so complimenting way, but I mean no offensive insults or anything.
Hope woke up in a daze. She hadn't remembered falling asleep. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes as she looked at the ocean blue eyes gazing down at her once again. It had become clear to her what had happened. Her and Justin fighting, coming home and crying hysterically, and then watching Justin's eyes watch her from his spot on her ceiling.
Hope grunted in misery as she staggered out of bed and walked over to look at her reflection in the mirror. What she saw didn't please her much. She had noticed that her auburn hair had gotten short once again. She knew that it was going to happen eventually, she just never expected it to be so soon. It had only been about a month, but the chemotherapy was taking a serious effect on her and it was affecting her rather quickly. Hope was very aware of this fact but with a million things racing through her mind at that moment, appearance wasn't very much to her. She brushed out the hair she had left and threw on a pair of old jean cut-off shorts and a red Bebe tee.
Once downstairs, Hope had found the rest of the house to be empty and a note hanging on the refridgerator from her mother:
Hope sweetheart,
I had to go into work today at the auction house. Your father should be home from work around five. Please be careful and don't forget to take your pills! Call your father and/or I if there is a problem. Love you sweetheart.
Mom
"Pills, pills, pills! Ugh!" Hope groaned as she finished reading the note as she opened the refridgerator door to get breakfast.
"Just another wholesome day planned out JUST for me!"
(Justin's House)
Justin hadn't slept much when he had gotten home. He was too wrapped up to sleep. Mainly because of what had happened at the resturaunt. He couldn't help but feel stupid and guilty for not being careful of what he was saying and who might be listening. Most of all, he hated the fact that what he couldn't deny to himself that what he said was true. He did feel pity towards Hope, but not pity that was offensive. He tried to clear his head but he couldn't do it. He was had thought over so many times about calling Hope, but he'd always play out in his mind, how the conversation would go. Either she hangs up on him, he hangs up on her, he freezes, she freezes, or he just says the wrong thing and messes up the situation even more. But he knew that he couldn't leave things how they were.
Justin got out of bed and reluctantlygot prepared since he and the other guys were going called to a meeting to discuss what would be happening once vacation was over.
(About an hour later)
Justin got into his Benz and started his drive to Jive Records. It had been less than a month or so since they were in a disclosed trial over legal rights to the name "Nsync". Justin and the rest of the guys were happy to get the heck out of Tanscontinental Studios and into the happy abode of Jive Records. Sure it was home to the phyiscal controversy known as Britney Spears and the half-witt-half-talents known as the Backstreet Boys, but the risk was worth it. Yet these thoughts weren't getting very far in Justin's brain stream. All he could think about was Hope. In such a short time he had grown so attached to her. Yet he didn't know how or why. It just killed him to know that what he had said really hurt Hope.
Justin had picked up, dialed, then turned off his cell phone about fifty times during the duration of the drive. He just couldn't bring himself to make the call. Which was so unusual for Justin. He was usually so assertive, but in this situation he just couldn't be his normal assertive self. He couldn't help but get frustrated.
Justin's frustration was anything BUT pleasant once he got to Jive. He had met Lance and JC in the lobby and had been waiting for Joey and Chris when his frustration began to show itself. It was more than just annoying, but it was pretty much irritating.
"Where the hell is Joey and Chris. I swear they're gonna ruin our image if we have to keep showing up to meeting late!" Justin complained as he walked over to the window and looked out the window into the parking lot.
Lance was taken aback at Justin's bad mood, but he knew that Justin was probably just stressing over the fiasco the night before and other things looming over recently.
"Justin you alright man?" Lance asked cautiously as he kept a good distance from Justin tall and stiff frame standing by the window.
Justin abruptly turned his head just enough to show off the side of his face as he answered, "I'm fine." His words had sounded so cold and harsh, yet there was a hint of sadness in his tone of voice.
"You sure?" JC asked picking up on Justin's attitude.
Justin turned to face the two of wide-eyed guys and rudely replied, "I'm fine alright. Geez, you'd think I was five!" Just as Justin had answered, he noticed Joey and Chris walking out of the elevator in the hallyway. "There they are. Finally!"
Justin made his way over to the two laughing guys and once again let his emotions vent out on his friends, "where the hell have you two been? You're late....AGAIN!"
Chris and Joey's eyes widened as JC's and Lance had. They were flabergasted with Justin sudden change in personality. "We're sorry mother dearest!" Chris joked.
"Oh would you stop joking Chris! Your twenty-eight, you would think that you have a shred of maturity in you. Now let's go, I wanna get this over with already." Justin said as he stomped off into the sea of hallways and offices.
The four guys of Nsync stood in the lobby flabergasted at what they had just witnessed. Justin was really irritable and it wasn't normally like him. But they guessed that it had to something to do with a certain seventeen year old red-head cancer patient.
"I wonder if he's PMSing??" Chris joked once again.
"I HEARD THAT!" Justin's voice rang out from behind one of the corners.
The guys shrugged their shoulders and started to walk off into the same direction as Justin gone. Joey whispered into Chris ears, "he always did have good hearing!"
The morning was already progressing and it wasn't turning into a good one. Hope was dizzy and nauseaus from her morning rotation of pills. On top of that, she was having constant sharp pains in her stomach. At first she thought that it was something serious and that she should call her mom or dad, but decided that it was probably a reaction to the chemotherapy and medication. So she just went to go watch some television while she tried to forget about how sick and awful she was feeling. Not to mention how miserable she still was over last night's scene at the resturaunt. But the odd thing was that not only did Hope and Justin's argument replay in her head, but so did the dance they shared before that.
Hope sat down on the couch and got into her usual sulking position as she turned on the tv and "Bye Bye Bye" came on MTV's TRL. (Just for those of you who like "good" details, but I'll just say that Nsync's "Bye Bye Bye" was number one...hehehe) Watching the video just made Hope feel a little more relaxed. She liked seeing the side of Nsync that she could always imagine them the way she wanted them to be. But Hope couldn't shake the feeling that the rest of the guys hadn't liked her much when she met them the night before.
"JC? Is Justin alright?" Rick Harvard of Jive Records asked JC once they started walking out of the conference room.
"Why do you ask?" JC asked trying to act nonchalant.
Rick opened the door and smiled when he saw Justin then turned to JC once again and replied, "he was sulking and seemed kind of out there during the meeting."
"Oh he'll be fine. He's just stressed by a lot of things. He'll be fine." JC said assuring Rick.
"Okie, I hope so. See you soon."
JC waited until Rick left and turned to look at a sulking Justin, "oh I hope so too!" JC said mumbling under his breath.
"What did you say JC?" Justin asked as he turned to look at him.
JC snapped out of thought and looked up at Justin and answered, "nothing. Look, can we talk?" JC knew that Justin needed to vent, but venting on everyone else wasn't the way to do it.
"I don't really feel like talking JC." Justin whined.
"I don't care if you don't feel like it. You need someone to set you straight." JC argued.
"Alright, go ahead and lecture me." Justin said re-positioning himself to lean against the frame of the lobby door.
JC took a deep breath and began, "I don't know what's going through that head of yours but the way you've been acting the whole morning has practically earned you a butt whooping! What is going on with you Justin?"
Justin shook his head as if what JC was saying was stupid, but he was surprised to see that JC wasn't going to back off anytime soon. "Look, nothing is wrong with me. I've just got a lost of stuff going through this head of mine."
"Does this attitude have anything to do with last night?" JC asked suspiciously.
Justin shrugged his shoulders at first and answered, "what about last night?" But he wasn't successful in brushing JC off his case when he noticed that JC was giving him the look of death. "Alright already. Yes it's about last night. I want to apologize to her, but I don't know how."
"Have you tried calling her?"
Justin sighed in misery, "I've dialed her numbers so many times but hung up before the call could be connected."
"Listen to me Justin, I don't know what your relationship is with this girl, but I think you should dial that number, and let it ring. If she picks up, see what happens." JC said advising him.
"But-" Justin tried to get his words out but was interrupted by JC once again.
"But nothing. Just do it." JC patted his friend on the shoulder and left Justin alone to make the phone call.
Justin looked at the cell phone he had been holding in his hand and thought about what JC had just said:
"Listen to me Justin, I don't know what your relationship is with this girl, but I think you should dial that number, and let it ring. If she picks up, see what happens."
Justin turned on the phone and dialed Hope's number. He breathed a sharp breath once he heard the line ringing.
(Meanwhile...)
Hope had been experiencing the sharp stomach pains and television wasn't helping to get her mind off of it. But she had forgotten about it for a second once the phone rang. Hope reluctantly got off the couch and stood over the side table where the phone sat. She slowly placed her hand on the receiver and put the phone to her ear.
"Hello..."
