One last Wish
[Chapter 7]
Hope and Justin walked back together towards a table full of surprised faces. The reason was very obvious. It was because of the dance that the two of them had just shared. But it was no surprise that the two of them hadn't really noticed. Hope was still extremely embarassed by what she had said to Justin while they were dancing. Justin was even more flabergasted at how blunt she had been. It was a nice feeling. They were starting to trust each other and that was what they needed from each other most.
Justin held out a seat for Hope and then pulled out his own and sat back next her. He shortly realized four familiar faces staring in awe at him. Their stae was defintley unerving, but he knew how to deal with it. He realxed in his chair and grinned at the four other guys of Nsync.
After a little time of deafening silence, Hope's father had gotten enough courage to ask Hope for a dance as Leigh excused herself to the bathroom. As Hope and her father made their way to the dance floor, the four familiar faces once again focused in on him. "Okay, what are you looking at now?"
"Oh nothing," Chris replied nonchalantly then continuing, "other than a eighteen year old kid with his horomones racing like Bobby Uncer at the Indie 500."
Justin chuckled a bit and sighed as he calmly took a sip of his drink before replying, "I don't see what the big deal is."
JC's eyes popped out of his eyes as he looked at an unbelievable Justin, "what do you don't see what the big deal is? Justin, five seconds ago you were parading around slow dancing with that girl."
Justin's eye immediatley shot up and filled with anger as he looked JC straight in the eye, "she has a name JC. Her name is Hope."
"Hey, I don't want to seem rude or disrespectful or anything," he said putting his hands up signaling his guilt, "but what is going through that head over yours?"
"What are you talking about?" Justin asked curious as to what his friends were implying.
"Justin, were not trying to sound offensive, it's just that Hope isn't usually the type of girl you hang around with." Lance said as nicely as he could.
"I know she isn't, but I like being around her. It makes me feel better when I know that she has her mind off of being sick. She's a great friend. So what if she isn't the type of girl I go out with, as long as she stays happy. I don't see why you guys have to think that I have a hidden agenda or anything-" Justin said but was soon interrupted by Joey.
"Uh Justin..." his voice trailed off as Justin put up a hand to quiet him and let him finish.
"No Joey, I knoe you were about to argue and say that is bullshit, but I know that's what you were about to say. She's a nice girl and I want to be a friend to her while she still has time. I hate to hear talk about when she dies, that's why I do these things for her. I thought you guys would understand but obviously you don't. I just wanted to make her happy for one more time before she gets to sick to enjoy life. I kinda start to feel sorry for her every time she tells me about how hard everything is on her..." Justin stopped when he had noticed how all the guys attention was foused to a figure standing behind him. Justin closed his eyes and prayed that it wasn't who it thought it was before he got up the nerve to turn around and see who it really was.
To his dismay, there behind him stood a teary-eyed Hope with her father standing right next to her. She wiped her tar stained face before she spoke. "You feel sorry about me when I tell you how hard everything is on me? Is that true Justin? Oh god, please spare me from burdening you and making you feel pity for me. That's the last thing I need. I don't want your pity. I don't want you using me to look like the hero in all of this. I'm sorry if I annoy you with my complaining!" Hope said with so much hurt and anger in her voice. With every word she spoke, the sound of her voice raised to the point she was screaming.
Justin stood up and tried to comfort her but she forcefully pushed him away. "Hope you don't understand."
"I don't understand? Understand what Justin? That I was just a little hobby of yours? I was someone you had made a difference for so you could show off to the world? I don't want your pity." Hope said as she fought back to keep herself from shedding a tear. "If you pity me Justin, then I don't want anything to do with you."
Hope stomped off passed her father and then by her mother who had missed what had just happened, although the rest of the resturaunt hadn't. Justin had tried to go after her but was quickly stopped by Hope's father. He had looked at down Justin so angerily that it seemed almost true that "looks could kill." Leigh and her husband had payed the bill and unreluctantly left. Before Leigh walked off, Justin stood up and talked to her, "you can hate me if you want Mrs. Evans. Just please don't let Hope be mad at me. I'm awfully sorry."
Leigh stood in front of him and never let a smile or a frown form on her face. She let out a sigh and finally spoke, "Justin, give Hope some time. She adores you, plus she's not the type to hold a grudge for long. She's just real worn out with everything."
"Thanks so much Mrs. Evans. I just hope you and your husband won't forever keep me on your hitlist." Justin hesitantly joked.
"Oh you don't have to worry about me. Just be careful with that mouth of yours. My husband is nothing but a potbellied hot head, but that's why I love him. He'll learn to deal with it."Leigh joked back as she hurried to catch up with the rest of her troop.
Justin turned around and walked back to the table as the rest of the guys began to gather their things. When they noticed Just start to walk back to them, they walked up to him and apologized for causing Justin and Hope's fight.
"We're really sorry about grilling you about Hope. We shouldn't have asked." JC said patting Justin on the shoulder as they started to walk out of the resturaunt.
"No it's alright JC. I shouldn't have said or thought those things in the first place. Your my friends and you deserve to hear the truth from me." Justin replied. He let out a small sigh as he turned to see the people on the dance floor. He let himself slip from reality and remembered the dance he had shared with Hope:
Justin placed his hands around her waist as she placed hers on his shoulders. It was a moment that Hope knew she would never forget.

"You've done it again Timberlake," Hope whispered into his ear as they continued to sway to the music.
Justin pulled away from her a little bit to look at her and smiled, "what have I done again?"
"You've managed to turn one of my bad days into a good one and make another dream come true." She answered.
"Was that the dream of meeting all the guys of Nsync?" He asked curiously.
"No, it was the dream of dancing like this with you."
Once Hope had gotten home, she stoped up to her room and threw herself on her bed as she buried her face in a pillow. She could no longer hold back the tears she had kept in since the moment Justin had said what he had said. His sentence wouldn't stop repeating in her mind:
I kinda start to feel sorry for her every time she tells me about how hard everything is on her..."
She thought that Justin would respect her and treat her like he would anyone else. Not like how she was being treated just because she had cancer. She trusted Justin to treat her like anyone else, but she should've known that his generosity was too good to be true. She honestly thought that someone was finally going to dismiss the fact that she was ill. Hope continued to cry then finally turned her back onto the bed and looked through blurry vision of the eyes and smile looking down on her. It was Justin. Her favorite poster of him. His ocean blue eyes had such a grip on her that it only made her cry more.
"I've been a fool to think that I could ever be normal again. I just wanted to be a normal friend to you Justin. Not a burden. I wanted it so much that I put you on top of a pedestal and saw you as something you weren't. So much..."
