One last Wish: Epilogue
One Last Wish: Epilogue
(Six months later)
The guys of Nsync waited patiently their turn to take the stage and perform for the crowd filled Staples Center for the Grammy’s. Once Sheryl Crow announced their name, the five guys took the stage and Justin lifted the microphone up to his lips to speak gently before the song the began. “We would like to dedicate this song, to a true angel. Hope, wherever you are, we’ll always love you.”
As the guys began the song, Justin could see flashbacks fill his head as they sung:
How do I say goodbye to what we had?
The good times that made us laugh
Outweigh the bad.
I thought we'd get to see forever
But forever's gone away
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.
I don't know where this road
Is going to lead
All I know is where we've been
And what we've been through.
If we get to see tomorrow
I hope it's worth all the wait
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.
And I'll take with me the memories
To be my sunshine after the rain
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.
And I'll take with me the memories
To be my sunshine after the rain
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.
”How do I say Goodbye to Yesterday
Justin walked off the stage with a pure bittersweet feeling. Memories of times him and Hope had spent filled his mind and he was so engulfed by it that he hadn’t noticed Hope’s parents come up to him.
“Justin, thanks so much for inviting us,” Robert thanked him.
Leigh gave him a hug and a small smile and also commented, “your performance was lovely. I’m sure Hope loved it.”
Justin nodded and looked on as Leigh took something out from her purse and handed it to Justin. “What’s this?”
“It’s a letter. I found it when I was going through Hope’s things. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to get it to you sooner.” Leigh answered.
Justin looked at the plain envelope and look at the quote that was written on the back of it, ‘The human spirit is stronger than anything that happens to it.’
“Well, thank you again Justin, and the tell the rest of the guys thank you for us also.” Leigh and Robert said as they walked out of the backstage area.
Lance came up to Justin and noticed the envelope in his hands, “what is it?”
“A letter from Hope.” Justin plainly replied. He opened the envelope and read it:
Dearest Justin,
If you’re reading this, then that means I have lived out my short life. I don’t want you to dwell on the sad things that happened to me and to you, but I want you to move on. You are a wonderful person, Justin, who has so much to give to the world. Don’t ever forget that and don’t ever sell yourself short. Just remember our good times, and know that I’ll be waiting for you wherever I am.
Love Always,
Hope
Lance patted Justin on the shoulder and asked Justin, “are you okay man?”
Justin thought for a moment then let a smile escape his lips, “Yah, yah I am. I’ll never forget Hope, nor will I stop missing her. But she’s right, I need to move on. Her pain is over and she’s in a better place. Knowing that she is finally at peace and watching over me keeps me going. Letting me know that there will always be ‘hope’ for a new tomorrow.”
Lance once again patted Justin on the back. The envelope that had contained the letter slipped out of Justin’s grasp and Lance bent down to pick it up. With it, came out a picture. Lance handed it to Justin who smiled at it, “here, it fell out. Does it look familiar?”
“It certainly does,” Justin replied smiling. It was the same picture that Justin had found at Hope’s house the day she was brought to the hospital.
“Hope sure does look angelic in that picture,” Lance commented.
Justin looked over the picture once more. Hope was smiling a huge smile and that never ending gleam in her eyes made her sparkle. She did look angelic. She was definitely an angel. “She sure does,” Justin replied.
She was his angel.
