June 2.2000 My last full day at Kruger, then on to Djuma for 15 days.Today again was an adventure! We saw all the general game one could wish for, impala, steenbok, kudu, nyala, waterbuck, zebra, wildebeeste, warthogs, vervet monkeys, baboons and giraffes. We saw hyena give thought to a herd of impala, but they were alert to him, and off they went. We just missed leopard twice and caught a fleeting glimpse of a cheetah. Our luck with smaller cats was wonderful!! We got great clear views of 3 smaller cats!! Joking the triple was impossible or next to it,we had seen African Wild Cat and Serval, in the morning. The prior looked like a house pet, or at wildest a barn cat. The serval seemed to have a head too small for its body, with nice pointy ears. After lunch we by passed elephants right outside the Skukuza gate to see a Caracal Lynx. We arrived to see it wander through the bush seeing it clearly severaltimes, the last moving quite swiftly away. That was the first time for anyone the guides knew of to see all 3 small cats in one day. Other sites of the day were a martial eagle and a bateleur on the ground wading in shallow water. We saw vultures and a purple heron as well. From the lookout,we saw 3 rhino I spotted through the binoculars, and a lone wildebeeste. Edgar spots a lion, which thanks to a bird that flashed by I was able to spot. We had gone up to see Africa's wonderous beauty, while this was not a new venue for me, the view was. There was an unusal layer of mist over one area, while before and after it were clear. It made for a lovely scene. The day was done, so many wonderful things seen, sounds heard , memories created. When I think of paradise images of Kruger will come to mind. Thanks to the gang at Welcome Safaris for an incredible job, your enthusiasm and knowledge added greatly to the experience!Eeeek Snakes or Frank's Place Main
