Misty

Crystal Dragon:

This is another one of Ash's best friends, Misty! She spends most of her time playing with either Pikachu or Togepi, and when she's not, she's fighting with Ash. So how does this make them friends? I don't know, but there are some times when they do act like friends.
Now how did this red-head start following Ash? A quick excuse of her bike which had been wrecked about a year ago. But we all should know, that's not why she's following him.
Misty has no nickname, but in the episode "Fice and Ice" Ash called Misty "Myst". Unless my ears deceived me, Ash got a pet name for her ^-^! Her Japanese name is Kasumi. I must say, her nondubbed voice is way too high-pitched! Maybe they tried to bring out the fact she's 10 1/2 years old by giving her that voice- either that or they just have some weird voice actor.
Her Japanese age, though, is said also to be 14. Well, I can't see how with that voice, but oh well. She wouldn't be so into romance if she were 10 now would she?

Misty is much different in the comic book and the game then in the TV show. Ash didn't seem to like her at first, but gets more and more used to her as the show progresses. Misty is also friendly and cheerful (like almost everyone in the dubb version) and is quick to make friends. Being aggressive and harsh is her way of showing the exact opposite (much like Gary). Minus a few circumstances, of course. 
She's not exactly a tomboy, you'd guess by the clothes and voice, but like most of the women in Pokemon she's certainly not a push-over.
