L Douglas Nauffts, Canso -
the death of L Douglas Nauffts, 67, of Canso
occurred at Eastern Memorial Hospital here on April 22
following a lengthy illness. Born in Spanish Ship Bay,
he moved to Canso in 1942 from where he operated a movie circuit
throughout Guysborough County until he began operating the Ideal Theatre,
Canso of which he was owner and manager until his retirement in 1973.
He was a member of All Saints Anglican Church of which
he served as warden for many years, He also served as
Deputy Mayor of Canso and as town councillor for many years.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mae Croft,
two daughters, Rose R.N (Mrs Alphonse Casey) of Dartmouth,
Helen (Mrs Ray Shanks) of Camp Borden, three sons
Vernon of Ottawa, Merle of Hazel Hill and Ronald, a student at Acadie (sic) University ;
three brothers, Albion and Bruce of Spanish Ship Bay and Rod of Owl's Head,
Halifax County; two sisters, Mrs Eva Marks of Ship Harbour
and Pamela (Mrs Roy Bowen) of Spanish Ship Bay, and fifteen grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one brother Edgar.
The funeral was held on April 24
at All Saints Anglican Church and was conducted by Father George Beech.
During the service the hymn "Blessed Be the Tie that Binds"
was rendered by the choir. Pallbearers were
Canso Mayor Jerome Lumsden and Councillors Darryl Greencorn,
Bernie Astles, Wilfred Rhynold, Bernard Long and Terry Horne.
Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Rhynold's Funeral home.
