GIFFIN, Robert Charles 'Bob' - 69, Goshen, Guysborough Co.,
died July 4, 1998,
in St. Martha's Regional Hospital.
Born in Issacs harbour, Guysborough Co.,
he was a son of the late Robert and Marjorie (Warner) Giffin.
At the age of 19, he left home to work on the Great Lakes.
He spent 42 seasons working as a deckhand, wheelsman and,
after attending the Nautical School in Halifax, received his mate's ticket.
He then sailed as a mate for several years, retiring in 1987.
He was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman, enjoying the great outdoors.
He was a member of King's United church, Loch Katrine.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Adrienne (Cameron) Giffin;
sons, Gregory (Shirley), Upper South River;
Wade (Helen Marie), Goshen;
grandchildren, Gwen, Bernita, Amanda, Tyrell;
brothers, John (Beverly), Bedford;
Gordon, Hammonds Plains;
sisters, Muriel (Cyril) O'Hara, Port George;
Mona Slater, Hallifax;
Joan (Conrad) Namiesniowski, Ottawa;
Ruth Roy, Victoria;
Diane (Tibor) Berta, Dartmouth;
many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother, James, sister, Mary, both in infancy.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, July 6, in King's United Church, Loch Katrine,
from where funeral will be Tuesday, July 7, at 2:30 p.m.,
Rev. Bob Manly officiating, assisted by Rev. Betty Darby.
Burial in Goshen Cemetery.
Donations may be made to St. Martha's Regional Hospital Foundation.
