1991 FLSTC Softail Heritage

Here's my old Softail Heritage, which I bought new in May 1991. I put 170,000 miles on this old beast. Me and it have been in every state west of the Mississippi, on countless road trips. It was hard to make the decision to part with it, but the time had come I guess. I gave it to my brother in law Sheldon. At least it's still in the family, and I'll get to see it every now and then.

Here's my 120K rebuild story

Old Blue Gone Bad (aka Old Flat Blackie)

After getting bored with the "mostly stock" look and "mostly stock" power, I went a little crazy and shifted into 'flat black and polished aluminum hot rod' mode. I installed a set of SE heads, Crane H310 cams, and really woke up that 89" motor. Add some de-chroming, rattle can paint, and a set of 16" apes, and that made for one cool machine. Well, at least to me. Also had all the black powder coated bead blasted off the engine when I rebuilt it.

Here's the motor. I replaced the chrome rocker boxes & nosecone with polished aluminum parts, and had the AR-2 pipes coated with satin silver "Jet Hot ceramic coating". Also had the oil bag and dash panel powder coated with wrinkle black. Cool, huh?

Here's a bit more of a close up. Although they call it near chrome, it's more like a polished aluminum. Which is exactly what I wanted it to look like, to match the rest of the polished aluminum on the bike. Like that wicked cool old "S&S Cycle" air cleaner from a Super B. Chrome-o is for Homos. ;^)

Here's how the whole thing looks on the bike. I definately didn't have much problem finding this baby in a Sturgis parking lot. In fact, old Willie G must have seen it there, judging from all the new "backed out" craze from H-D. Sheesh. Where's my royalty check, Willie?
