These Friendships - Chapter Two

Brian sat down next to Nick in the conference room. "Hey, is it all right if I go with you to Chastity’s house later this afternoon?"

"Yeah, sure man." Nick smiled teasingly. "Are you going to ask her?"

"Ask her what?" Brian turned away, obviously trying to avoid Nick’s question.

"Come in Brian! You know that you want to ask Cassie out!" he teased.

Brian blushed and turned to face him. "Well, I want to…" Brian began softly, "but we’re already such good friends and I don’t want to ruin anything. I mean, I’ve liked her for a while now and I do want to ask her out but…. What if she says she just wants to be friends?"

Nick smiled and patted Brian’s shoulder. "Don’t worry about it Bri. The absolute worst thing that can happen is if she says no because she just wants to be your friend. She’ll still be your friend and she won’t think of you any differently just because she knows that you like her. And if she says yes then great! The way I see it, you can’t lose."

Brian considered his options. "What would you do Nick?"

Nick just shrugged his shoulders. "I can’t answer that. I’ve never been in your situation before."

Brian looked a little puzzled. "You’ve never looked at Chastity as being more than a friend?" he asked, curiously.

Nick shook his head. "Cassie and I are friends, best friends. We’ve been through too much together to even develop something more."

"I find that hard to believe man." Brian chuckled.

"Why?" Nick questioned.

"Just look at her! She’s definitely one in a million!"

"I admit that she is wonderful, not to mention very beautiful and she has a wonderful personality, but that’s it. It’s never gone any further and it probably never will."

"Probably?" questioned Brian with an arched eyebrow.

"Well yeah. We’re friends, I’m sure she feels the same way."
