Bosses


Mist Dragon: Fought at the end of the Misty Cave. Beating it allows you to reach Village Mist

BATTLE TACTICS

Level 11+: Fight; Parry when creature turns to mist, then Fight more when creature returns
Level 10+: Jump repeatedly

Octomamm: Fought at the end of the Watery Pass. Beating allows you to go through to Damcyan. Weak against lightning.

BATTLE TACTICS

Level 20+: Cast Lit-1 on Octomamm, and Cure2 on Rydia when necessary
Level 14+: Fight; Equip with Darkness sword
Level 11+: Call Chocobo

Antlion: Fought in the lowest level of the Antlion's Nest. You need to get it to obtain the SandRuby it shits out, which is needed to cure Rosa.

BATTLE TACTICS

Level 9+: Hide; Parry whenever it's his turn
Level 16+: Fight; Equip with Darkness sword
Level 14+: Call Chocobo

Mombomb: Fought at the summit of Mt. Hobs. Yang will join you for this battle. It starts as an innocent enough looking bomb, but soon turns into the giant flame shape

BATTLE TACTICS

Level 12+: Fight, Equip with Charm harp; also, use Cure1 potions if needed
Level 10: Fight
Level 15+: Call Chocobo
Level 17+: Fight, Equip with Darkness Sword
Level 12+: Cast Cure1 on party as needed, and Slow on boss
    Eventually, the boss will explode, and shatter into a group of 3 Gray bombs, and 3 Bombs

Milon: Fought at the peak of Mt. Ordeals. Has four Ghasts in front of him at the beginning of the battle. Attacks mainly with Lit-1.

Level 19+: Fight Milon; Equip with Black sword
Level 22+: Cast Cure2 on party and Ghasts
Level 14+: Twin

Milon Z.: This is the Fiend of Earth. He will attack from behind, so be sure to reverse your row formation before proceeding across the bridge. He is weak against fire.

BATTLE TACTICS

Level 14+: Cure2 on party, Slow on Milon Z.
Level 19+: Fight; Equipped with Black sword
Level 22+: Fire1 on Milon Z.
Level 14+: Fire2 on Milon Z.

Baigan: Fought in Baron Castle before reaching the King's room. Has two arms and a body. If both arms are destroyed first, the body will regenerate them. If a spell is cast on the body, it will cast Wall to prevent any further damage.

BATTLE TACTICS

Level 18+: Fast/Bersk on Cecil and Yang, Cure2 when necessary
Level 18+: Fight; Equip with 2 Thunder claws
Level 23+: Cast Lit-3 on body once. Baigan will cast Wall. When Palom uses the Dancing Knife, Baigan will attempt to cast Wall again. It will bounce off the pre-existing wall and Wall one of your party. When this happens, bounce Lit-3 off that character. You have a 33% chance of hitting Baigan's body and killing it.
Level 17+: Fight; Equip with Legend sword
Level 18+: Use Dancing knife as an item on Baigan's body once, then bounce Virus off walled characters in your party

Kainazzo: Kainazzo is the Fiend of Water Fought in the throne room of the Castle Baron. Defeating him allows you to get te Enterprise. He attacks with Wave after he gathers the water, but will stop gathering water if struck with a Lit spell. Like most water foes, his weakness is lightning. When his HP gets low, he will attempt to hide in his shell and recover.

BATTLE TACTICS

Level 19+: Fast/Bersk on Cecil and Yang, Cure2 if necessary
Level 19+: Fight; Equip with 2 Thunder claws
Level 22+: Cast Lit-3; One shot should get rid of the bloated blue bastard
Level 18+: Fight; Equip with Legend sword
Level 19+: Cast Lit-2

    From this point on, all your characters should be around a certain level. So from here on out, I will list the recommended levels for all characters in your party for each battle, rather than do it individually, unless otherwise noted.

Dark Elf: Guards the Crystal of Earth in the Cave Magnes. You have to visit the wounded Edward in Toroia, or else you'll get bitch-slapped rather quickly. Even after visiting Edward, Dark Elf will toast your party, but Edward will break the magnetic field, and you'll get another shot at Dark Elf. Have Ruby rings on all 4 party members to block the Dark Elf's Whisper spell.

BATTLE TACTICS, Level 22+

Fight; Equip with Silver hammer
Fight; Equip with Silver sword
Bersk/Fast on Yang/Cecil/Cid; Cure3 when a party member is hit by the Dark Elf's Weak spell
Fight; Equip with any 2 claws.
    After sustaining a certain amount of damage, Dark Elf will change forms. Tellah's Weak spell will lower the new foe's HP to single digits, making his existence short.

Magus Sisters: Fought in the Tower of Zot, right before the room with Golbez in it. Their main offensive maneuver is the Delta Attack, which is basically either Fire2, Ice-2, Lit-2, or Virus. However, they can only use this when all 3 sisters are alive. Otherwise, they are fairly weak. As in most battle, good strategy is to take out the enemies in the front first.

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 29+

Fight; Equip with Earth hammer.
Fight; Equip with Fire sword
Bersk/Fast on Cecil/Cid/Yang, until Wall is reflected onto a party member. Then, Cast any Fire3 on the member that is Walled to reflect it back on the sisters and do heavy damage.
Fight; Equip with any 2 claws

Valvalis: The Fiend of Wind. Fought in the Tower of Zot after saving Rosa. When spinning, her defense is raised, and all attacks will be counter-attacked. The only way to break the spin is for Kain to jump. Then she is vulnerable to attacks and spells.

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 29+

Parry until Kain lands his Jump, then Fight; Equip with Earth hammer
Jump; Equip with Wind spear
Parry until Kain lands his Jump, then Fight; Equip with Fire sword
Cast Cure2 and Fast on party members until Kain lands his Jump, then cast Slow on Valvalis.
Parry until Kain lands his Jump, then Fight; Equip with 2 Thunder claws.

Calbrena Dolls: Fought in the Crystal room of the Dwarf Castle. At first, there will be 3 Cals and 3 Brenas. They are weak against fire.

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 29+

Jump Brenas; Equip with Wind spear
Fight Cals & Brenas; Equip with Fire sword
Aim on Cals; Equip with Great Bow and Fire arrows
Fight Cals & Brenas; Equip with Fire claw & Poison claw
    After a certain amount of time, the remaining dolls will morph in the Calbrena. You have a certain amount of time to kill it before it turns back into 3 Cals and 3 Brenas, and you have to start over.

Golbez: Partially weakened by Tellah's Meteo, Golbez will confront you in the Crystal Room. He will use a Hold Gas on your party, then call a Shadow dragon. The Shadow dragon will then destroy Yang, Rosa, and Kain. Kain will not be destroyed, however, if you get him in the air with Jump before Golbez uses the Hold Gas. Either way, the Shadow dragon will be destroyed before it can get to Cecil, then Cecil will be cured of his paralysis, and able to fight. Golbez won't take long to get rid of this time, so it is unnecessary to revive the wounded members.

BATTLE TACTICS:

Cast Virus. It only takes one or two times to get rid of Golbez

Dr. Lugae & Balnab Fought in the top floor of the Tower of Bab-il. Winning this battle gives you the Tower Key, needed to enter the locked door on Floor 5. At first, Balnab will have trouble figuring out who to attack. Focus your attack on Balnab.

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 31+

Jump; Equip with Blizzard spear
Cast Virus or Lit-2 on Balnab
Fight; Equip with IceBrand
Bersk/Fast of Yang/Cecil, Slow on Balnab
Fight; Equip with 2 Thunder claws
    After you trash Balnab, Dr. Lugae will attempt to operate him manually. This won't last long, as he will accidentally self-destruct the machination, inflicting heavy damage on one party member. However, if you act quickly, you can toast him before that happens

Aim; Equip with Archer bow and Lit arrows

    Whether you defeat Lugae, or he self-destructs, he will soon morph into yet another form. The first thing he will do is poison all 5 party members. Don't bother healing, as the poison makes your party protected from his Gas, which is a Sleep attack.

Rubicant: Rubicant is the Fiend of Fire, and the final Fiend. When his cloak is closed, no Ice spell will do damage to him. When his cloak is opened, he will cast Glare, a powerful Fire spell that will more than likely wipe out one of your party members.

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 33+ [Edge Level 27+]

Jump; Equip with Blizzard spear, Ice shield, Ice armor
Cast Virus, use Life potion if Rosa is wounded
Fight; Equip with IceBrand, Ice shield, Ice armor
Bersk/Fast on Cecil/Edge, Cure2/3 when necessary, Life1 on wounded party members
Fight; Equip with IceClaw and Middle katana

Asura: The Queen of Summoned Monsters. Fought in the lower level of the Summoned Monster Library. Victory gives Rydia the ability to summon Asura, and the party a chance to fight Leviathan. She is constantly curing herself, and counterattacks every time she is hit.

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 36+

Parry until party is fully readied, then Jump; Equip with Defense sword
Parry until party is fully readied, then bounce any Level 3 Black magic spell she has off Rosa's Wall
Parry until party is fully readied, then equip Avenger sword
Cast Blink on all party members, then cast Wall and Asura and herself. Continue casting Blink so party members remain protected.
Parry until party is fully readied, then attack; Equip with Ninja katana & Full Moon

Leviathan: King of the Summoned Monsters. He is the old guy standing next to Asura in the library. You can only fight him after beating Asura. Defeating him gives Rydia the ability to summon him. When uncoiled, attacks with Big Wave. When he coils, his attack is Ice-2.

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 36+

Jump; Equip with Defense sword, Fire shield, Fire armor
Cast Lit-3 if she knows it, otherwise, Call Indra
Equip with Avenger sword and fire armor
Cast Cure2/3 whenever necessary, Fast on Cecil/Rydia
Cast Blitz

Devil Wall: Fought after leaving the Crystal room of the Sealed Cave. Gradually moves closer and closer. When it gets close enough, it will use Crush, destroying party members one at a time. Your goal is to stop it from getting close

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 39+

Jump; Equip with Defense sword and Aegis shield
Call Leviathan
Equip with Avenger sword
Bersk on Edge, Fast on Fast on Cecil/Rydia, Slow on the Wall
Fight; Equip with Ninja katana & Full Moon

Bahamut: The God of the Summoned Monsters. Fought at the end of Bahamut's cave on the Moon. Starts at 5 and counts down to his deadly MegaNuke attack. Only way to survive it is to cast Wall on your party members.

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 41+

Fight; Equip with Excalbur
Cast Wall on as many members as possible. Rydia should be first, Edge should be last. Once that is accomplished, feel free to Nuke the bastard
Fight; Equip with Ninja katana and FullMoon
Cast Wall on as many members as possible. Then Aim; Equip with Samurai bow and Artemis arrow

Elementals: Fought in the final passage of the Giant of Bab-il. Appear in the order of the Fiends in the original Final Fantasy. Their attacks are slightly stonger and partially different.

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 42+

    : This time around, Milon still uses mainly physical attacks, but now he also uses a Curse spell

    : In your second encounter, Rubicant no longer closes his cloak, which means he is vulnerable to Ice spells at all times. However, he can now cast Glare at all times

    : In this battle, Lit spells no longer force Kainazzo to lower his wall of Water, and his wave attack is now amplified

CPU: The core of the Giant of Bab-il. Has an Attacker, a Defender, and the CPU unit. Kill the Defender first, or damage to the CPU will be repaired. Killing both the Attacker and Defender will make the CPU attack with Globe199, which does 9999 damage to whoever it hits, then both smaller units will be revived, and you'll have to start over. Also, the CPU casts Wall on itself, so don't even think about using Black magic. You could try the bouncing off a Walled party member tactic, but there's a 50% chance you'll get screwed if you try it

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 42+

Call Sylph; This is the best attack for this battle, it will damage the CPU and heal your party simultaneously
Fight; Equip with Excalbur. One hit should off the Defender, then proceed to Fight the CPU
Fast on Rydia/Cecil; then Cast Meteo, it should take just long enough to cast so that it will wipe out the CPU and Attacker in one fell swoop
Fight; Equip with Ninja katana and FullMoon
Fast on Rydia/Cecil, then Aim; Equip with Samurai bow and arrows

Odin: Fought in the basement of Baron Castle. Victory gives Rydia the ability to summon Odin. Will use regular physical attacks, but when he raises his sword, it means he's preparing to attack with Odin, which will undoubtedly wipe you away

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 42+

Pale Dim: Fought in the Lunar Subterranean. Guards the Murasame katana. Attacks frequently with Slow and Quake. Cast Float before the battle begins

Fight; Equip with Excalbur
Fast to counteract Pale Dim's Slow spell; Cast Cure3/4 as needed [probably not at all
Fight; Equip with Ninja katana & FullMoon

Wyvern: Fought in the Lunar Subterranean. Guards the Crystal Sword. This guy is a pain in the ass. He'll MegaNuke you before you can do anything. Then it will cast Wall on itself and reflect Nuke onto you. ouch... If Rosa goes down, you're basically screwed. Better luck next time

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 43+

Jump; Equip with Defense sword
Call Asura to repair the damage, then Call Bahamut to inflict it
Fight; Equip with Excalbur
Cast Cure4 & Life2 to repair initial damage. Then use Cure4 on party members that are Nuked
Dart the Light sword & the Avenger sword, if there's anything left, Fight; Equip with Murasame & Ninja katanas

Plague: Found in the room next to the final Save Point in the Lunar Subterranean. Guards the White lance. It will strike all members of your party with the Count spell simulaneously. Then it becomes a race between the numbers above your party's head, and the swiftness you can kill the bastard

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 45+

Jump; Equip with Defense sword
Cast Nuke
Fight; Equip with Crystal sword
Cast White
Dart Mute dagger, then Fight; Equip with Murasame & Ninja katana

D. Lunars: Fought two doors over from the final Save point in the Lunar Subterranean. Guards the Ribbons. You'll have to fight two of these bastards. They like to cast Wall on themselves and bounce Virus off of it, and also to use Fire

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 45+

Jump; Equip with White lance
Call Bahamut
Fight; Equip with Crystal sword [Each hit does 9999]
Fast on Cecil; Cure4 repeatedly
Fight; Equip with Murasame & Ninja katana

Ogopogo: Fought on the first level of Crystal Tiles in the Lunar Subterranean. Guards the Masamune. Real asshole, too. Uses Big Wave twice before you can do anything

BATTLE TACTICS: Level 45+

Jump; Equip with White lance
Cast Nuke
Fight; Equip with Crystal sword
Cure4
Cast Blitz

Zeromus:


Yup, this is the final boss. The evil dude responsible for all the shit you've been through. Don't just stand there, kick his ass! Before that happens, Cecil has to use the Crystal as an item on Zeromus

He'll attack with Big Bang [which is like Virus], Blk. Hole [cancels any Fast, Wall, etc. spells], Nuke, Virus, and when his HP is low, an ineffective Meteo spell... Okay, now kick his ass!

BATTLE TACTICS:

Jump; Equip with White lance
This is the complicated part. Any Black magic or Call magic results in a powerful counterspell by Zeromus. But what the hell, Call Bahamut anyway
After using the Crystal, just do what he always does. Fight; Equip with Crystal sword. If any character goes down, use the Life potion, and Rosa's Cure4 will perk them up.
Forget everything else... Cure4, Cure4, Cure4, Cure4
Dart the following items in this order: Spoon, Excalbur, Defense sword, Gungnir lance, Masamune, Murasame, Ninja katana, Drain spear, and any Ninja stars or Shurikens left over. Edge needs no weapons for this, Zeromus should die by the time you run out of stuff to Dart
