Mom and Dad have a moving house, and that's what we go on vacation in. Rachel, Heidi and I sleep in a
big, big crate together. I like that because I get to be with my buddie, Rachel, more. At home we have our
own separate crates to sleep in even though we are right next to each other. Since I'm so much bigger
than Rachel, she just snuggles right up to me to keep warm. Rachel loves to snuggle because she has very
short hair and it doesn't take much to make her cold. Mom always puts a sweater on her and Heidi when
we are out on vacation. We seem to always go where it's colder than at home. At home sometimes it gets
so hot I have to stay inside the house all day. The house is so nice and cool, especially when I'm all
sprawled out on the kitchen floor! My auntie Mary made us a huge bed to lie on, but I prefer the cold
floor. My sisters, of course, prefer the warm bed.
Anyway, where was I? I'm almost as bad as Mom when it comes to remembering things. And I'm not
even as OLD as she is!
We go on vacation a lot to this beautiful place with lots of tall, tall trees, rivers, mountains and lakes. It
takes us two days to get there, I know, because we always stay overnight at the same place. Riding in this
moving house is so much fun. We get to run around, climb on the couch, sit at Mom's feet or even sleep
without the crate during the daytime. We can't use the crate then because all the birds are in there. I
really don't mind--they're our pals too since we use their room at home! Mom puts all of the birds in our
huge crate during the day and then cleans it up every night for us to sleep in. I wish she wouldn't clean it
up as good though, so I can eat some of the stuff left on the newspapers. I mean the bird food, chicken,
cheese, yogurt and things. What did you think I meant? Yuk!
See, here I go again straying off the subject. Maybe it's hereditary. We always stop a lot so my sisters and
I can run and play and do you-know-what at rest stops. That's all part of the fun! We get to see a lot of
people, and doggies too. Even when we are just inside, we get to spend a lot more time with Mom. When
we're at home (the one that doesn't move), Mom is not home a lot, only at the end of the day. And then
she is so busy I hate to bother her. I just follow her around to let her know I love her. She loves me too
because she always stops to talk to me, or smile and pet me, or gives me a bite of what she's making for
dinner.
In the moving house, Mom just sits around so she has plenty of time for us. But there are so
many of us, so we still have to share her.
I think the place we go to a lot is Oregon. Mom and Dad loves it there because it's so pretty. We love it
too. There's a lake and open space where we are all allowed to run free. Sometimes we stay there all day
and play in the water. Mom and Dad were in a raft one time and I tried to follow them out, but got so
tired swimming, I had to go back to the beach. I was so nervous staying by myself I kept pacing back and
forth. I guess Mom saw me and decided to come back right away. I'm pretty lucky I have such a nice
Mom. I was afraid they would leave forever. Doggie hours are 7 times longer, ya know.
Sometimes we go bicycling around the lake. My sisters get to sit in a basket, but I get to run along-side.
Mom always keeps me on a flexi leash though so I wouldn't go far and get lost. Other times we just sit at
a picnic table and enjoy the view. Mom would take the birds out in a cage, and humans would come by to
see. I like those times because I get to visit too! Mom always tell them how smart I am, and of course she
would ask me to do something to show them. I do my best then because I don't want to let her down.
Mom and Dad always keep us with them when we're on vacation. They never leave us in the moving
house by ourselves except to buy food, because we're not allowed inside. I wonder why. Maybe they're
afraid we'd help ourselves to the food, ha. Good thing too, because I probably would.
I found a funny kind of ball on the ground one day. I wanted to sniff it to see if it was good to play with or
to eat. Mom wouldn't let me and made us leave. I knew it was good to eat because I smelled something
sweet inside. There were these little flying bugs all around it, though, and Mom seemed to be afraid of
them. Not me--I could swallow them if I wanted to. I guess Mom likes all little creatures and she didn't
want me to hurt them. I really wouldn't have though because I didn't like the funny noise they made.
