Jeff Duran
The Biography
From the gutters of Hollywood, California. Sometimes known as JJ Star, an extreme, in your face Wildman who pulls no punches on stage and on his racy CD's , and most of the time as a knowledgeable Rock and Roll disc jockey who lives and loves the music he plays. Either or, Duran is a gifted writer/actor/performer whose unique persona and sometimes brash brand of humor is guaranteed to entertain.
Since age 11, Jeff has been entertaining audiences on stage, radio and even television appearing in the late 80's ABC series Wonder Years and in music videos by Megadeth. His first appearance was in a sixth grade talent show where he lip-synched the Christian Heavy Metal band Stryper's "Soldier's Under Command" and ripped up a bible on stage in front of mortified teachers and classmates. A misunderstood comedic genius was born! At age 18, after he briefly attended a broadcasting school, Duran set his sights towards radio. After landing gigs as a traffic reporter for Shadow Traffic and as an FM DJ in Palm Springs, Jeff tried his luck at stand-up comedy. The response was less than enthusiastic by club owners and bookers, but rather embraced by local bands like the Offspring ans Rebel Rebel , who had Jeff open several of their shows. The response prompted several self-produced/financed demos in which Duran used as ways of landing gigs on the road. A road tour surfaced by 1996, and was the subject of a semi-documentary called JJ Starr. Drives Me To Drink. Jeff has been featured on Fox 11 News, 92.3 the Beat, and write-ups in the LA Times pertaining to his stand-up act.
In 1998 , Jeff hosted the LA Rock Scene a syndicated radio program that featured local bands, actors and comedians. The shoe quickly became a subject of several magazine and newspaper articles and prompted a public demand for a live show in which Jeff used as a plateau for his comedy. The show was held at Luna Park in Hollywood and was a sell out success! Jeff performed his abrasive stand-up as well as doing many characters that showcased his acting and improvisational abilities. He released two comedy CD's that same year including 'Dr. DETH M.D'- in which Jeff plays a self-help type love Dr. that rids his patient's/caller's problems by threatening to kill them! He showcased at the legendary Comedy Store and Laugh Factory on the Sunset strip as well.
To prove Jeff can do a complete 180 in showbusiness, he, along with his supportive mother, collaborated on a children's book called Meed. A plush toy along with the book should be flying out of the stores by Christmas! Each day Jeff is an afternoon drive disc jockey on the High Desert's Rock Station Rock 106.5 KIXA in Victorville, CA. He continues to write new material and do sporadic performances in the L.A. area. Jeff was recently part of the Rock 106-birthday bash opening for Great White at Maverick Stadium in front of 3,000 people! He is showcasing at he World famous Comedy Store and will release a 3 CD comedy masterpiece in 2000 called "2000 reasons 2 Love/Hate JJ Star"! Only being held back by lack of investment and proper representation, Jeff Duran, if managed properly , could result in MTV icon status. Whether it's the stage, screen, or on the radio-JEFF DURAN needs to be seen and heard!
