It's not necessary to be an artist or a scholar to enjoy being around the gallery. All it takes is an enthusiasm for art, a willingness to help the public, and a little of your time. Here are some of our regular volunteer positions:
Gallery and Gift Shop Attendant
If you like to greet and talk with the public, you might consider working as a gallery or gift shop attendent. Attendants have the important responsibility of opening the gallery on weekends, answering questions, and providing information about exhibits one weekend afternoon a month.
Gallery Guide
Gallery guides lead tours and share insights into the exhibits, artists and individual works and help others develop an appreciation for the visual arts. They should enjoy talking to small groups of children and adults, and be willing to participate in a training program. Gallery Guides may volunteer to assist with morning or afternoon weekday tours.
Reception Hostess/Host
The opening of a newexhibit is an exciting social affair, comlete with VIP's, hors d'oeuvres, and usually live entertainment. Hosts and Hostesses help greet our guests and serve wine and cheese. You'll meet a variety of people, including artists and help to successfully launch each new exhibit.
Other Volunteer Opportunities
Behind the scenes assistance may be needed to hang and set up exhibits. If you have skills or experience in fund-raising, word processing or desk-top publishing, videotaping, art history, or if you have a desire to help, there is an opportunity for you.
