Our son, David, age 11, has never been much of a reader. This has been very disappointing to me because I love reading so much. Last summer we finally had a breakthrough! The book he was assigned for summer reading totally changed his mind. He loved it and now will admit that sometimes reading can be fun.
I will be forever indebted to Gary Pauson!

All my kids have loved this fabulous book by Madeline L'Engle.
Even David had to admit it was great.
Sid Fleishman rocks!
He blends a sense of humor with a sense of adventure
and produces books that are very appealing to kids.
They are funny, thrilling, outrageous, and downright rockin' !
By the Great Horn Spoon is a zany tale about a boy and the family butler
who run away and go to California to the Gold Rush. They keep getting in and out of trouble, and have all kinds of crazy adventures.
David loves this book!
The Ghost in the Noonday Sun is a tale about a boy who is kidnapped by pirates to help them find a buried treasure.
You'll love reading about all his efforts to outsmart them!
Mr.Mysterious and Company is about the Hackett family, and their travelling magic show!
Paul Jennings
These books are short stories by an author who really understands what kids like to read.
Paul Jennings writes his stories with the perfect combination of scary and gross that 9-12 year olds love!
Mr. Jennings is from Australia, so the vocabulary can be a bit confusing for American kids, but it is worth a little struggle for such great stories!
Louis Sacher

Louis Sacher has a quirky sense of humor, and his books are an adventure in a strange and funny world.
His Wayside School series is especially delightful!

I you want to laugh your head off, read these books by Robert Newton Peck. They are about two
boys who live on farms in Vermont. Unfortunately for Rob, his best
friend Soup has a knack for getting them into trouble!
This series, The Littles by John Peterson is fun!
