Eagle-Eye Cherry and Shania Twain snagged top honors at the BMI Pop Awards held Tuesday at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. Artists with the most played songs on radio and television were feted by the performing rights organization... Rather than straight categories, winners were given Citations of Achievement for having the most performed songs during the eligibility period of October 1, 1998 through September 30, 1999. A total of 121 songwriters -- with seventy-five songs among them -- were honored. Other multiple winners include Third Eye Blind, Paula Cole, Sheryl Crow, Elton John, Sarah McLachlan and Mariah Carey...
05.02.00 : Lilith Co-Founder Proposes TV Series, Tour
Marty Diamond, the agent who helped create the Lilith Fair tour with Sarah McLachlan and manager Terry McBride, is shopping a proposal for a Lilith-inspired TV show and associated tour based on mixed genders, genres, and spontaneous collaborations.
The working title of the proposed monthly cable program and mini-tour series is "The Living Room," and British electro-folk songstress Beth Orton is under discussion as the possible host.
....another of Diamond's ideas would be to team McLachlan with such diverse artists as techno guru William Orbit, Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, and The Fugees' Wyclef Jean. Diamond is currently in discussion with a number of television outlets regarding the concept.

05.01.00 : UPDATE: Sarah McLachlan Song To Be Cut From Columbine Tapes
By Staff Writer Brian Hiatt reports
In response to demands by the artists, music by Sarah McLachlan and Cheryl Wheeler will be removed from videotapes documenting last year's massacre at Columbine High School, officials said Friday (April 28).
The video, which was released to the public this week by officials in Golden, Colo., in response to a court order, used McLachlan's "I Will Remember You" (RealAudio excerpt of live version) and Wheeler's "If It Were Up to Me" over grisly images of the aftermath of the shootings.
....Wheeler and McLachlan had demanded the removal of their music, which they said was used without permission.
"It's wonderful Ñ they should do it as soon as possible," Coleen Novak, a member of McLachlan's management team, said. "It's just unfortunate that it had to had to happen like this in the first place. Sarah is very upset [about the inclusion of her music]."
....The music had been added to the footage when it was originally used as a training video for emergency workers.

04.10.00 : Sarah McLachlan, Rob Thomas, Lauryn Hill & Others Impress At Supernatural Evening With Santana
Santana's eight-time Grammy winner Supernatural came to life onstage for the first time on Saturday (April 8) in Pasadena, Calif. for an evening that will surely rank with the likes of such memorable musical TV events as VH1 Divas Live.
Billed as Supernatural Evening With Santana and held at the beautiful Pasadena Civic Auditorium -- made even more gorgeous by the album-inspired set design and voluptuous female dancers in feathered costumes on a few numbers, Carlos Santana led a two-hour concert featuring the majority of the guests on Supernatural. Most of the artists on the album were on hand to perform their respective songs -- Dave Matthews ("Love of My Life"), matchbox twenty's Rob Thomas ("Smooth"), Everlast ("Put Your Lights On"), and Lauryn Hill with Cee-lo ("Do You Like the Way"). Absent, but not exactly missed, were Eric Clapton, Wyclef Jean, Mana, and Eagle-Eye Cherry.
The first special guest of the evening was not a Supernatural player, but a labelmate of Santana's, Sarah McLachlan. She on piano and vocals and he on guitar, they offered a gorgeous take on her hit, "Angel." And, while stellar talent always delivers stellar performances -- as with all of the big names on the stage this evening -- the audience was met with predictably, straight-forward -- yet, perfectly perfect -- performances of the album's songs.
....The concert will be pared down to just one hour for the June Fox TV special, which will most likely mean the show will stick to the big names. Arista will release the concert in its entirety on CD, VHS, and DVD sometime after the June airing. An exact date in June has not been set yet.
