Chapter 14

Brian's View

We looked around in awe of our surroundings. We couldn't believe what was happening or that we'd even be allowed to witness it. Everywhere we turned we saw angels. Up ahead of the angelic army were Saradim and Kat. Apparently they were the leaders of the army.

But on the other side we saw Ryan and his demonic army; every one of them looking evil and ready to fight. I leaned over and whispered to Nick, "Good thing good always wins."

"No kidding."

After those words we didn't have anymore time to talk. A warning trumpet blew and the two sides took their form.

Kat's View

Saradim and I took our spots at the head of our army. Across the line, Ryan grinned at us evilly. "Are you ready to die?" Looking past him I saw a bottom-less pit behind him and his army.

Looking back to him I said, "You know, I really don't get you. First you blame my death on my friends and try to kill them and now you're trying to kill me, the girl you were in love with!"

"Well when you tried to kill me I changed my mind."

"You were trying to kill my friends, you pig-nosed loser! What did you expect me to do, stand back and watch?"

"No that's what I was hoping you'd do."

"You gave me no choice. But despite your lack of manners toward me, the Big Guy has given you a choice. Turn to Him and you can get out of this. You can live. Or you can stay on your side and die with the rest of your army. It's your choice but you're not too smart either."

"Ha! Yeah right, like I'm really gonna join you! You'll lose this battle hands down." I looked up and over to my right and saw Kevin, Howie, AJ, Nick, Brian and Shane all looking anxiously at the scene. Over to my right, the Big Man Himself looked at me expectantly. This time around He had a face and form instead of a big ball of light. Slowly, He nodded which gave me the go-ahead. I turned back to Ryan.

"Okay then." Our side exploded with light.

Demons fell left and right and Ryan began to panic. "Ryan it's never too late!" More evil soldiers fell. "Never!" He was getting closer and closer to the pit behind him and his army. If the demons didn't die from the angels they died in the pit. I shot one into it. It flew past Ryan, screaming as it fell to its temporary death. "Ryan don't do this! You can live for what ever it's worth!" Saradim sliced through another shadow of darkness with a flaming sword. "No!" Closer and closer he got to the pit. Something inside my mind called out to me and I looked back. The Great One was looking at me with a look that had a message.

"Don't let him go if you can help it." The request echoed in my brain as I turned back to the battle. Ryan was on the edge of the pit. I started running toward him but it felt like I was in a dream and wasn't getting anywhere. He started to topple backwards. I dove headfirst in order to reach him. He fell as I hit the edge. I grabbed his hand and tried to pull him back up. He looked up and I saw a combination of emotion I'd never seen in him before. His eyes read regret but his face read satisfaction.

"Don't. I deserve this. I know I'll have one last chance someday. I want you to know that I'm sorry. I know I caused you and your friends a lot of pain. I'll regret it until eternity." He let go.

"NOOO!" I watched him fall farther and farther until he was out of site. Then, with my arm still out-stretched, I collapsed out of reality.
