TV Hits-September 1997 Hanson surf the Net! Last month the Spice Girls were quizzed by American fans over the Internet and now it's Hanson's turn to go surfin' - let's go! Welcome to the Net, Hanson! Surfer number one - Isaac! isaac: Hello! Peace and love! Internet Dude: Here's our first question. How long do you think you'll be staying in the music business? isaac: I would prefer to stay in the music business all my life. I love music, it's such a big part of me. Internet Dude: My friends and I are an up-and-coming female group, much like you (!). How did you get started and heard? We've been giving out demos to all the recording studios... isaac: We got started six years ago and really, any band knows you have to take any opportunity you get. You do whatever you can do. We used to sing in a restaurant - it was kind of corny, but funny. However, I don't necessarily recommend doing that. I'd take any opportunity to get out there because exposure is what you want. And then I recommend demos! Internet Dude: Hi! I was wondering if you sign autographs through the mail. isaac: We really don't, no! Internet Dude: So, what made you use Mmmbop? Why not Sssbop?! isaac: Mmmbop was originally written as a background part for a song, so it was really just a coincidence. We liked the way the chorus sounded and then a year later, we finished the song. I don't know why we call it Mmmbop, it just worked. Internet Dude: Did you ever think your album would be as big as this? isaac: Never. You never can expect this sort of thing. You just hope and pray for Top 40, so having the record doing Top 10 and the single hitting Number One is an incredible experience and we're completely grateful to everyone that's gone out and bought the record. Thanks, everyone! Internet Dude: So what are you all doing in terms of school and junk while you're touring? What do you look for in girls? isaac: When I find out I'll tell you. And if I limit myself to something, I'd prove myself wrong. Internet Dude: Have you guys got any movie or book offers yet, and will you take them up? isaac: Yes, we've gotten offers, but really we're focussed on the music. Who knows what we may be in the future, but right now we just look forward to playing for all you guys and continuing to make music. Internet Dude: Hanson, I'm 19 and would like to know how success at such an age has affected you guys. isaac: In a lot of ways, success is very superficial because it can go as fast as it comes and you have to realise that. And if you don't, you'll lose grip with reality. At the same time it is extremely cool and fun. It's a lot of work and we love the chance to be out there and that everyone is reacting as well as they are. Thanks for giving us the success we've had. Internet Dude: Thank you, Isaac! Taylor Internet Dude: Taylor is with us now! We now have Taylor at the keyboard. taylor: Hey. Internet Dude: Taylor, could you take that question about what originally inspired you to start a band? taylor: I don't really know. It was so natural. We just started singing and knew that's what we wanted to do. Internet Dude: Hi! Meaning no disrespect, are you worried about your voices after they break? Will you stop singing? taylor: Who knows what they'll be like on the next album. We're always striving for the next best thing. You can't predict the future...who knows? Internet Dude: I know you guys have younger siblings. Do they feel any jealousy towards you three since you're so in the spotlight right now? taylor: Not at all. Not a single hint of jealousy! Internet Dude: You guys are great! I love all your songs! Who are Lucy and Madeline? Anyone special? Your song I Will Come To You really helped me and my girlfriend out! Thanks! When are you touring? (Quite finished?!) taylor: Unfortunately, Lucy and Madeline are just names - sorry! I'm glad you love the music and we'll probably tour later this year. Internet Dude: What's it like being young in a grown-up industry? taylor: It's pretty wild, but we love it. Internet Dude: I saw you at the MTV awards and the presenter guy teased you about lack of schooling. Why - don't you go to school? taylor: I don't know why he said that - we still do school, but it's home school. Internet Dude: Taylor, what's it like going to school at home? taylor: What's it like not going to school at home?! I don't know! Internet Dude: Does it scare you that so many people know everything about you? taylor: You'd be pretty surprised what you don't know about us... it's pretty wild. Internet Dude: Do you ever get jealous of one another? taylor: No, it's not like that at all. Internet Dude: What is the meaning behind your song Yearbook? taylor: It's really for you to make up yourself. You decide. Internet Dude: What type of music do you like? Any favourite artists or bands? taylor: Spin Doctors, Natalie Merchant, No Doubt, Blues Traveller, all the old stuff. Otis Redding, Chuck Berry, Aretha Franklin - all the original rock 'n' roll. Internet Dude: Is there any way I can get hold of the music you recorded and distributed yourselves before you got the record deal? taylor: It's pretty much out of the loop. We might release it much later on. You never know. Internet Dude: How does it feel to be a teen idol for so many girls? taylor: I really don't know. It's amazing, it's really amazing. It's an awesome opportunity for us. Internet Dude: Do you think becoming the hottest band has changed you? taylor: I didn't know we were the hottest band. No, it shouldn't change you and it doesn't. Internet Dude: Thank you, Taylor. Zac Internet Dude: Zac is up next. Hello, Zac! Welcome, Zac! First question... why do you all use your middle names instead of your first names? zac: I don't use my middle name. Zac just sounded cool. We just liked that name more. Internet Dude: How many other brothers and sisters do you have? zac: There's Hanson, and we have two younger sisters and a younger brother. Internet Dude: I love Hanson! Especially Zac. My name is Natalia and I'm from N. Y. City and I am 11 years old. How tall are you, Hanson? zac: I'm, like, 5'1". That's not exact. Internet Dude: So what is your next project gonna be? zac: Right now, we're working on promoting this album and our next project will most likely be the tour. Internet Dude: What do your parents think of all this? zac: They've always been behind us and still are. Internet Dude: Are you a laid-back group or are you always busy and never get to do your own things? zac: We definitely have free time. We are kids that do stuff. There's a local place, Laser Quest - we go there a lot. Internet Dude: How did you get started in music? zac: We started six years ago at a local festival. At that point we were singing acapella (ie without instruments). We got started because we love singing and we love music. Internet Dude: Have you all had people ask if they could come into your group? zac: Not really. When we were younger with our best friends we'd always say, 'Do you want to be in a group?' But in the end, it was just us. In other words, we haven't. Internet Dude: What is it like to change the channel on TV and see your face? zac: It's really cool. It's awesome to look and go, 'That's me.' It's a great feeling. Internet Dude: What is the best part in being in such a successful pop group? zac: I don't know. You're the same person. The best part is getting the experience and getting to go to the different places. We've already gotten the chance to go to Europe and Japan. It's really just a great opportunity. Internet Dude: Do you ever get into fights with each other? zac: No we really don't. We get along very well. We're basically best friends. Internet Dude: How long did it take you to get started? How did you show your parents you were serious about it? zac: We started at the age - I was six - when we were that young it was obvious we were serious. Our parents encouraged us by getting bookings and things like that. Internet Dude: Have you guys had fans who have gone to unreal limits in order to be around you? How do you deal with that sort of thing? zac: No, we haven't experienced that. But, having fans wait hours and hours to see you, that is pretty awesome to think people want to see you that much. Then again, what is unreal limits? Internet Dude: Do you get mobbed all the time? zac: No, not really. Today in New York, we were doing a photo shoot and there was a crowd following us. That was pretty cool. Internet Dude: Being in a band on the road at your age must be the coolest. What is the best place you've visited? zac: Our best place? Erm, I've enjoyed all the places. Italy has great food. In France, seeing the Eiffel Tower. In Germany, seeing the Dome Cathedral. Internet Dude: We have time for one more question. When is your next video coming out? zac: I'm not sure. Right now we're editing Where's the Love. Hopefully it'll come out very soon. Internet Dude: Any closing words for your fans? zac: We love you and thanks for talking to us. It's great to know you're out there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This page hosted by [GeoCities] Get your own Free Home Page
