Live & Kicking-September 1997 It's a Family Affair! When did you discover you weren't tone deaf? Isaac: We started playing together about five years ago. At first we didn't play any instruments, we sang a capella (without instruments), but today we all play. Taylor: There's always been a lot of music around our house. Our parents always played and sang for us, so I guess we have inherited their talents. So did the whole Hanson clan break into song all the time? Taylor: Our parents learned that they couldn't set us to do any chores together because, as soon as they turned their backs we stopped working and started to sing or write a new song! We grew up in a small town, and our friends got used to us putting on shows for them all the time. We even made two independant albums, but we never imagined that things were going to become so big! Did you think you were going to be famous? Taylor: When you write a song you never expect it to become a hit. You're just happy if you think it sounds good. We were thrilled when we heard it topped the charts. It's great to know that people like what you're doing. Do you have any spare time? Zac: Yeah, we do lots of other things. For instance, Isaac is a computer freak - he's always at the screen. We love to go Rollerblading. We paint. And, of course, we do our schoolwork. We don't go to a normal school. We never have. Our father is in the oil business, so we have always been moving around. Because of this our parents have been teaching us at home. It may sound strange for those of us who aren't used to it, but we like it. So are you real swats? Zac: Our parents are very strict. No matter where we are or what we do they make sure that we study. Do you get fed up with each other? Taylor: No, not at all. We are really good friends. I mean, of course we fight and quarrel sometimes, but it's never serious. I think spending so much time together has actually made us closer friends. At home we even share a bedroom. I think we're lucky, because when you travel as much as we do now, it's really nice to know you've got your best friends with you. You sing about girls a lot, but is there any romance at the mo? Isaac: No, unfortunately. None of us have any girlfriends. We travel so much that it is almost impossible. That's not to say that we're not looking! But even if we don't have girlfriends, it's natural to sing about girls. Girls and pop music sort of belong together! Still, this isn't the only thing we write about. On the album there are songs about friendship and aliens! Does working so hard ever get you down? Zac: No, not really. We have got a very good team to take care of us. They always make sure we get some time off so we don't get tired of it all. Taylor: Besides, we're grateful that all of this is happening to us. It might not last forever, and we want to enjoy it. We get to do and see things that other people just dream about, like travelling around the world. We're enjoying every minute! This page hosted by [GeoCities] Get your own Free Home Page
