Pokemon Live Tour 2000
By Ryan, Saturday, April 29, 2000
The Poke Tour is back in 2000 for the Aussies, and it's better than ever! This time, the tour will "feature a range of great Pokemon-themed stuff including performance stages (uh-oh, Pikachu on stage again!) at each venue and the opportunity to play a range of Pokemon games with other fans. The tour will be at the following locations in Australia, so keep an eye out:

Westfield Paramatta, NSW (29th/30th April)
Westfield Fountain Gate, VIC (6th/7th May)
Westfield Southland, VIC (13th/14th May)
Westfield Doncaster, VIC (20th/21st May)
Westfield Belconnen, ACT (27th/28th May)
Westfield Liverpool, NSW (3rd/4th June)
Westfield Miranda, NSW (10th/11th June)
Westfield East Gardens, NSW (17th/18th June)

There's also a mention of 'Mt. Druitt, NSW (24th/25th June)', but it doesn't say whether it's at a Westfield Shoppingtown or not. At this point, I'd presume so though.

The First Movie still showing strong sales
By Ryan, Friday, April 28, 2000
The video release of Pokemon: The First Movie is still showing strong sales nationwide.

Billboard magazine released its top selling video list for its May 6, 2000 magazine publication.

In this list, Pokemon: The First Movie is sitting at the #3 spot in most sales. It was beat out once again by The Matrix and by the newly released Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.

This shows that the movie is still selling well and pretty much maintained its position on the chart even though it was bumped down one position from last week due to the release of the new Star Wars movie to home video.

If you have not gotten you copy of Pokemon: The First Movie then run out and get it now. Its the only way to get an exclusive Mewtwo promo card and a sneak peek at Pokemon the Movie 2000

Announcement and News
By Bahamut, Wednesday, April 26, 2000
First...the news. I have read that pokemon cards have become extremely popular over in Europe and that pretty bad fight have even broken out in Britain. British teachers report that the children are acting like zombies over the cards. (An example of how Nintendo and WotC are programming kid's minds.) Thats all for the news. It is pretty sketchy since I don't boter to read the stuff Yahoo! sends me because I think pokemon sucks.
ANNOUNCEMENT

::In best Richard Nixon voice::
Effectively immediately, I am resigning from my post as an updater here at PokeUS, not for any scandal or problem, just the fact that pokemon sucks. I am not a crook.

British teachers want to stop Pokemon in the UK
By Ryan, Wednesday, April 26, 2000
A report issued by Reuters today says that teachers in the UK are concerned that kids are to obsessive about Pokemon cards.

After an incident recently where two 11 year old children robbed an 8 year old at knifepoint of his Pokemon cards, British techers and school adminitrators are voicing their concern that the cards may be doing more harm than good. The report stated that many of the cards are going for very high amounts of money and that the Pokemon craze in the UK is at a peak with the recent release of Pokemon: The First Movie.

British school officials say that the cards have been banned at most schools due to the obsessive nature of the cards. Other school officials think that the British government should step in to stop what they call "very aggressive television advertising."

Pope gives Pokemon the thumbs-up!
By Ryan, Tuesday, April 25, 2000
Pokemon mania is sweeping across Italy keeping many parents worried.

In a report from Fox News, Italian parent's worries over "what kind of game" Pokemon cards are were soothed today with an official endorsment of Pokemon from the Vatican.

On Sat2000 TV which is the Vatican station, Church officials stated the the Pokemon cards and Video games were "full of inventive imagination" and that the game did not have "any harmfull moral side effects" and was based on "ties of intense friendship."

Pokemon had had a huge surge in popularity of late with over 50 million pack of cards sold in the last month. The cards have become so scarce there that Italian officials fear the the Mafia may enter the Pokemon arena by producing counterfiet cards.

You can expect that with the endorsment of the Vatican, Pokemon's popularity in Europe is just beginning.
