Oklahoma: Due 12/13
Jamie Brehm, Cross Timbers Elementary, Edmond, OK
Howdy from the Sooner State, Oklahoma!

Dear Journal,
I arrived on December 13th after all of the students had "left the building". I spent the night guarding the principal’s office.
Early the next morning Mrs. Brehm opened my box and found me with my new look. I was wearing a Razorback snout! Ha. I am just too cool.
I was introduced in CTC then spent the day at the third grade Christmas program. We had a party with my favorite snack-Puppy Chow!!! It was delicious. We ate it out of disposable dog bowls while listening to my favorite tune Dog Breath. The kids were really funny dancing and acting like me!
The class made a serape for me to travel with since they were representing Mexico in the program. Well, I am sad to leave these wonderful students but I guess I had better take off for Texas!!!

Louisiana: Due 1/4

1/7/00 This is to let you know that Owney arrived in Louisiana this morning. Friday, January 7, 2000. We had a wonderful day with him. Our two classes met in the morning and we opened the box to find Owney all wrapped up in his sarape. He looked warm. Well, since he visited us and we live close to New Orleans, only 15 minutes away we decided to put a Mardi Gras mask and beads around him. He loved it. We had a King Cake party with him. Hope he has a safe trip. We insured his box for only $1.00 more so someone has to sign to get him in Miss. It cost us $8.30 to mail him, so others can get ready for about that price. Without insuring him it would have been $6.50 I think. Wait till you all see him again..........
Mrs. Delk and Mrs. Morgan from Louisiana
I mailed him at 4:30 today for Miss.

Mississippi: Due 1/10

Friends,
I am spending the night in Mississippi. Mrs. Carolynn has a beautiful new classroom. We are going to have a party in the morning. That King Cake that I had in LA was so good that I asked Mrs. Carolynn if we could have one in Mississippi. I only get to eat King Cake when I visit the great states of LA and MS. This cake is so good. It has cream cheese and blueberries in the middle of a fabulous yeast bread. Inside there is a little plastic baby hidden. Whoever gets the piece of cake with the baby is suppose to buy the next cake. I hope I don't get the baby, because I will get back in my box tomorrow and continue on my journey. Oh, the tradition of the King Cake represents the Three Wisemen (kings) searching for baby Jesus. The people here in the South eat these cakes during the Mardi Gras season. Owney is wearing some Mardi Gras beads that our friends in LA gave him. During Mardi Gras, everyone (boys and girls, men and women) wear these beads. They go to Mardi Gras parades and people throw these beads from the floats. Everyone tries to get as many beads as they can by calling out, "Throw me something, Mister!!!!" It is great fun!
Well, I have to rest up now for my long trip tomorrow. Oh, by the way, I am right on schedule!
