10/21/99 When Owney arrived in Utah, his friendly teacher was away at a conference. Owney looked around town and thought it would be nice to stay there for a while, so he hid there. When the teacher finally found him, she said sent him on his way to Arizona. She said if he's a good dog and hurries along on his trip, he can come back at the end of his journey.

Cornville, AZ
10/25/99 Owney did arrive in Cornville, AZ Monday afternoon after the students had left. He awaited their arrival the next morning. Owney was surprised that no rattlesnakes had gotten him. Also gila monsters didn't meet him, just kids that were excited to see him. Tuesday morning the students came into the classroom to find him perched on his box. They excitedly exclaimed "There's Owney!" He went with the class out to Flag Salute with the other primary classes and was introduced to all the kindergarten through third grade students. Owney spent the morning lying on a table watching some students do their work, then Krissy was done and wanted to read a story to Owney on the Reading Loft. Owney enjoyed the Berenstain Bears and Trouble With Grownups. Owney went to lunch and recess with the students and had fun going down the slide and swinging high as the mulberry trees. After lunch he took a nap while the students did their math. He decided to not go to P.E. as flag football wasn't his idea of fun. He went visiting in the office and around the school. The afternoon went fast as he said goodbye to all the students and was packaged back up for his trip to New Mexico. Mrs. Wieweck took him and the post cards to the post office that afternoon to be sent out. We enjoyed seeing Owney again. The students that were in the class last year were glad to see him again and wanted him in their classroom too. It is a great project that will be written up in our school newsletter this week I think. Keep up the great work and hope to see Owney next year. Will be glad to receive the post cards from all the states that Owney goes to.

11/1/99 Owney arrived in New Mexico this morning. Our mail runs at 4:00 this afternoon so he will be in it. His box is a mess so I will try to find a new one or do some repairs on this one.
